This painting of Charles VII (1403-1461) dates to the time period but credits no artist. It hangs in the Louvre. Joan of Arc and other charismatic figures led French troops to lift the siege of Orleans and to crush the English at the Battle of Patay. With the local English troops dispersed, the people of Reims switched allegiance and opened their gates, allowing for the coronation of Charles VII in 1429 at Reims Cathedral. .

This image shows the painting by Lucas Cranach the Elder of Martin Luther on his deathbed. Martin Luther was a German priest, the leading figure of the Protestant Reformation, and his theological beliefs form the basis of Lutheranism. Luther was ordained to the priesthood in 1507 and died in 1546. Lucas Cranach the Elder (died 1553) was a German Renaissance painter and printmaker in woodcut and engraving. He was court painter to the Electors of Saxony for most of his career, and is known for his portraits of the leaders of the Reformation.
