Robert S. Close - Culture under canvas The story of the stage successes under canvas of Grace Sorlie and her late husband George Sorlie (page 11) will be read with interest by Australian writer Robert S. Close (People, July 19, 1950) who reports himself to be enjoying life in Paris. He went there about a year ago, mainly to make a personal claim for 500,000 francs-not the fortune it sounds and used to be, but still a useful £500 or so-owing to him by a French publisher for royalties on an edition of his controversial novel Love Me Sailor. Close, who still gets some of the flavor of home and his own people from this magazine, had a not altogether successful connection with ten-theatre, as we wrote in our story about him. He came out of it a sadder and, he hopes, a wiser man, but still convinced that if certain other factors had been handled better, the dramatisation of his book could have been a real success even in Sydney under canvas.
