The left man wears a knee -rug (veshti, lungi), messy tied in the waist with a waistband; An open short jacket with buttons and long sleeves (Hettaya) and below that a Portuguese shirt (kamisaya) with a wide neck opening. On his left side, a short bump in a sheath hangs recognizable as a Javanese or Malay dagger (Kris); The Dutch have apparently also provided this kind of weapons to members of their rental troops on Ceylon. On the head he wears a high hat with a brutal edge. The man in the middle only wears a Singalese way of a hip rug (Veshti, Lungi). The upper body is uncovered. On his left side he also wears a kris. Both of these men are Singalese rental soldiers (Lascarines), now employed by the Dutch. They belong to the caste of the Goviya.
