Women of History - Eleanor of Aquitaine -- Elenaor of Aquitaine married King Louis VII of France when she was 15. She accompanied him on his crusade into Syria to conquer the "infidels".While her husband was engaged in this disastrous expedition, she spent so much time with her uncle, the Count of Poitiers, that her conduct became a camp scandal. Her husband divorced her. Eleanor quickly married the youthful Henry of Anjou, with whom she'd been accused of having illicit relations.Historians say this second marriage was purely political.Louis VII had hoped Aquitaine would descend to Eleanor's two daughters. He was alarmed at the new marriage, but there was nothing he could do after Henry became King of England.Henry, according to history, was a dashing person, irresistible to the women of the Court. Eleanor was jealous and their married life was not happy, although she bore Henry five sons and three daughters. September 30, 1955. (Photo by International News Photos).
