This photo dates to around 1922 and shows a class at Jireh Swift School in the North End of New Bedford, Massachusetts,at the end of the school year and graduating to the next class. This elementary school was built in 1909 and named after Jireh Swift, a prominent merchant. He was the founder of Swift & Allen, an organization thatserved the whaling industry as agents, ship chandlers, and commission merchants.Swift & Allen were major suppliers of cordage, iron ware, groceries, and other goods needed to outfit whaling vessels of New Bedford and nearby ports.

Vacation Relaxation for Utrecht Schoolchildren

Luxury School For Rochester Boys -- Boys marching to heir classrooms through the sun-trap doors."Britain's Luxury School" is the description given to the new temple school for senior boys just completed here. Among the amenities provided for the 500 scholars in addition to the normal classroom accommodation are radio equipment in every classroom two full equipped laboratories for science, and a canteen which provides scholars with five midday meals a week for is 6d.
