Two Unidentified Young Men, Rombout Verhulst (circle of), c. 1660 The approximately twenty -five year old is portrayed against a flat, oval background to just under the hip and three -quarters, but with the look at the viewer. He has his right hand at head height, holding his thumb and forefinger up; The left, in which a handkerchief, supports in the side; The elbow is strongly forward. The face shows a mustache, the wavy hair hangs to the wide, flat collar, which completely covers the shoulders. He wears a wambuis closed with buttons, on which shoulder valves. The sleeves, which have turned to the ends, show a row of knots and a large split, making the sleeves of the shirt visible that exhibit cuffs at the wrists. In the Wambuis, a nest stands for stopping the pants, which can just be seen, as well as the hilt of the Degen, which is attached to a bandelier running across the chest.
