The Royal Wedding License -- The Royal Special License.The Royal Special License for the marriage on November 20th of Princess Elizabeth and Lieut. Philip Mountbatten, has now been issued from the Faculty Office of the Archbishop of Canterbury.The License is on vellum and the lettering is in old engrossing hand, a style used for legal documents as far back as 1600. The lettering is the work of Mr. H.J. Fisher, a Londoner, who has been Appended to the License is the six-inch square Seal of the Court of the Faculty, attached by white satin ribbon. This drawing is from The Life of Charles Dickens by John Forster, Vol II (1842-1852). It shows a calling card left by M. Bathelemy. Forster wrote, 'His name is Bathelemy. He wears a prodigious Spanish cloak, a slouched hat, an immense beard, and long black hair.' The writing on the card he left said: Rue de Corcelles Bathelemy 49. This was during Dickens' 1845/1846 trip to Paris and France.

French textile manuscript, ca. 1820, This manuscript, an instruction manual for a school associated with a manufactory begins with a history of silk manufacture and continues with discussion of contemporary silk makers in Spain, Italy and France. The text is illustrated with 136 intricate drawings of looms, many in watercolor, showing set-ups for various patterns and materials, and includes 102 tipped-in examples of fabric. The chapters contain detailed information on silkworms and their breeding, the pulling of silk, and the composition of fashion materials, including gauze and damask.
