Sunshine has helped transform John Cann from a near cripple to one of Australia's outstanding athletes.A sturdily-built lad of 17, he recently won five state championships breaking three records.He has run 100 yards in 9.8sec.But at the age of three he had to sleep in aluminium splints and wear special boots to keep his legs straight. Cann suffered from rickets. He was so badly knock-kneed that he fell over when he tried to run, even the special boots. January 19, 1955.

Farr Trains For Come-Back - First Picture --The first training picture of Tommy Farr, former British heavyweight boxing champion, taken at the start of a 45 minute spell of brisk running on the Sussex County Cricket Ground here. Thirty-six-year-old Tommy, the one time "Tony pandy Terror," is wearing the same training gear he used during preparation for his memorable fight against Joe Louis 13-years ago. Remarkably fit - he is within a couple of pounds of the weight at which he went 15 rounds with Louis - Tommy will decide within the next few days whether or not he will stage he much discussed come-back.His last fight was in 1940, against Zacky Nicholas.
