Newcastle will be a stop ping-off point for a young schoolteacher when she retraces one of Australia's historic flights. Miss Dorothy Dean, 30, will fly into Newcastle in January. The principal of a small school near Ingham in north Queensland, she is re-tracing the same route that pioneer woman aviator Mrs Mary Bonney followed when she made her round-Australia flight in 1931. Mrs. Bonney, now 82 and living at Miami on the Gold Coast, was the first woman to attempt a solo round-Australia flight. January 7, 1932.
