1,000 Miles Per Hour -- A "mock-up" of the new faster-than-sound plane.At the request of the Air Ministry, a piloted supersonic aircraft able to fly at a speed of 1,000 miles an hour nearly 250 miles faster than the speed of sound - at a height of 36,000 ft., which it could reach in one and a half minutes, has been designed by a British firm of aircraft manufacturers. This Miles supersonic plane - known as the M.52 - resembles a winged bullet. It is 33 ft long and has a wing span of 27 ft., the wings being somewhat shorter than those of the orthodox aeroplane. Many new features are incorporated in its design, including a detachable pilot's cabin which would enable him to bale out in safety, even though the plane was flying at terrific speed in the stratosphere. R.A.F. Demonstrate Man-Carrying Centrifuge - The Man-Carrying Centrifuge at the R.A.F. Institute of Aviation Medicine, Farnborough, is a piece of apparatus capable of simulating the centrifugal acceleration encountered by pilots when they change direction at high speed. This can result in various physiological effects, even causing unconsciousness. The apparatus consists of a 60-ft rotating arm, pivoted in the centre, at each end of which is a car weighing 1,150 lbs. These cars can attain a speed of more than 115 mph, and at this speed the centrifugal force on the cars is equivalent to 30g - or a force equal to 30 times that of gravity. May 17, 1955.

Semafor 6 Semaforians came as they look today in the 1890s, however, they showed driving like 45*down instead of upwards. This turned out very practically if something broke down to a semaphore and it rolled down in the position "run" even though it was miscarried track barriers and oncoming trains on the line ... Therefore, SJ began the big job of replacing all old semaphors that showed down towards those who showed upwards instead. In 1915 this must have been finished. Gisses that in the same vein you started painting mast and wings yellow/red instead of white/red, although the latter occurred until semaphors were taken out of use. I have found two different dates on the last used semaphore. One says October 1980, Skahus, Småland.The others say in 1998, but no dates or places

Aviation in Britain Before the First World War Nulli Secundus I, in a balloon shed with its doors open. The propellers are turning and Cody can be seen attending to the engine. It looks as if the engine and propellers has been detached from the airship envelope. Cody was responsible for the design of the nacelle and spar frame that attached the nacelle to the airship envelope and kept the latter rigid. The construction of the frame from hickory, spruce and bamboo followed similar lines to the methods used for his kites and gliders. It was in this airship that Cody and Colonel Capper of the Balloon School at Aldershot made their record breaking flight from Farnborough to London The journey of 40 miles took three hours twenty five minutes and included circling St Paul's Cathedral. It finished at the cycle stadium next to Crystal Palace. At the time this was a world record for a non-rigid airship. Colonel Capper was instrumental in the War Office deciding to use Cody's man carrying kites

Testing Human 'stop' resistance --This rocket-propelled railway vehicle is being used by the Air Force to find out how much deceleration shock the human body can endure. The vehicle attains a speed of 150 m.p.h., then is braked to 75 m.p.h. in one-fifth of a second. Test results will help in developing crash protection equipment for airplane crews.
