Honor Guard members assigned to Yokota Air Base, Japan, stand at parade rest prior to the U.S.-Japan Joint Memorial Service June 11, 2022, at Mt. Shizuhata, Shizuoka city, Japan. The memorial service provided participants the opportunity to honor those who lost their lives during a World War II air raid on June 20, 1945. During the raid, two U.S. Army Air Forces B-29 Superfortresses collided mid-air over Shizuoka City, resulting in the death of 23 Airmen on board the aircraft. Representatives of the U.S. Air Forces Yokota Air Base, Japan Self-Defense Force, and Shizuoka City rendered their respects to the Airmen and Japanese civilians who lost their lives as a result of the tragedy.

U.S. Air Force Academy, CO -- Major Robert Bonner  carries the remains of Lt. Gen. A.P. Clark after a funeral mass held Mar. 17 in the Cadet Chapel.  Lt. Gen Clark, who was the Academy's sixth superintendent from Aug 1, 1970 to July 31, 1974, was a 1936 graduate of West Point and went on to a flying career after graduation.  He spent 33 months as a prisoner of war after getting shot down over Abbeville, France in July 1942, flying a British Spitfire.  His post-World War II assignments includes staff positions at Tactical Air Command, Continental Air Command, Air Defense Command and Air Force Headquarters.  Gen. ANNAPOLIS, Md. (May 24, 2019) Midshipmen toss their covers in the air during the United States Naval Academy's Class of 2019 Graduation Day and Commissioning Ceremony. The hat toss, now a traditional ending to the ceremony, originated at the Naval Academy in 1912 as a symbolic and visual end to the four-year program. The Class of 2019 graduated 1052 midshipmen and were addressed by acting Secretary of Defense Patrick M. Shanahan. As the undergraduate college of our country's naval service, the Naval Academy prepares young men and women to become professional officers of competence, character, and compassion in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.

U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. Christopher J. Adams, 4th Marine Division Sergeant Major, reads a citation during a ceremony awarding Sgt. Joseph Howard, a Yonkers, New York native and an infantry mortarman with Weapons Company, 2nd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, with a Navy and Marine Corps Medal at McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey, Dec. 9, 2022. The Navy and Marine Corps Medal is the highest non-combatant decoration awarded. On Dec 30, 2017, at the time a lance corporal, Howard witnessed a car collision between four vehicles. Victims were trapped in a vehicle that had flipped eight times over a distance of 300 feet. Howard extracted the two unconscious victims from the car that continued to leak fuel. As he moved the second victim to safety, the vehicle was engulfed in flames and exploded. He then reassessed their injuries and provided life-saving first aid until first responders arrived.
