Established in 1960 as the Hancock General hospital, the hospital eventually evolved into the Hancock Medical Center. The medical center is currently a member of the Ochsnper Health System and serves a population of over 44,000 residents in Hancock County. The medical center was severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The Hancock Medical Center was restored with public assistance and mitigation assistance from FEMA.
