Respiratory system in a young child from the ENT sphere to the diaphragm. In children, the respiratory structures are smaller than in adults, for example, the size of the lungs. They are shorter, like the length of the windpipe. But they are also narrow like the diameter of the trachea and bronchi. Finally, the palate, as well as the diaphragm, are more horizontal than in adults. They are closer to each other. The mucous membranes are thinner and more fragile. These anatomical peculiarities explain why infections spread easily and rapidly increase the respiratory efforts of the child. (Photo by: JACOPIN/BSIP/UIG)

The 4 main types of aspergillosis disease. These infections are caused by inhaling the spores of a small fungus called aspergillus, most commonly aspergillus fumigatus. They can cause: (1) aspergillus sinusitis, infection local sinus may have an invasive form in immunocompromised patients. (2) allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis, inflammation and obstruction of the bronchi mainly affecting asthmatic or cystic fibrosis patients with symptoms identical to those of asthma. (3) an aspergilloma, a mycelial ball developing in a pulmonary cavity caused by another pathology such as tuberculosis or sarcoidosis. (4) invasive aspergillosis, which spreads through the pulmonary blood pathways to other organs, affecting mainly immunocompromised patients.
