Molle, Olson, and their teammates were part of an Army Food Management Assistance Team (FMAT) Inspection that was completed of the Food Program Management Office and Supply Subsistence Management Office. The FMAT inspection took place March 29-31 at Fort McCoy, said Fort McCoy Food Program Manager Andy Pisney. The FMAT inspects each installation food program every 18 months in the Continental United States and every 12 months in overseas locations. The objectives of the FMAT inspections are to assist in raising the quality of the installation food service program and to increase the effectiveness by identifying programs that are functioning well or that may require improvement.

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. - Workers at Kennedy Space Center load an airplane with supplies heading to Stennis Space Center in Mississippi for NASA workers there. Both Michoud Assembly Facility near New Orleans and Stennis were effected by Hurricane Katrina. KSC is sending a helicopter with medical supplies and an Emergency Medical Technician to Stennis. A NASA plane is carrying medical supplies, food and chain saws, as well as a physician and two high voltage technicians to Michoud to ensure the facility can safely receive power when the main electricity grid comes online. KSC has sent a truck with 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel and three large generators a 1-megawatt generator, and 125- and 225-kilowatt generators. A 14-person security team is also going to Michoud to relieve the security professionals at that location.

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. -- Temporary camp worker Michael Trujillo of North New Mexico displays chaps in the supply tent at the Nacogdoches site. The chaps are used by U.S. Forest Service, Environmental Protection Agency and space program workers searching through dense forests in East Texas. Kennedy Space Center workers are participating in the Columbia Recovery efforts at the Lufkin (Texas) Command Center, four field sites in East Texas, and the Barksdale, La., hangar site. KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. -  Pieces of Columbia debris lie in a staging area in the RLV Hangar pending engineering assessment.  The Columbia Reconstruction Project team is identifying pieces and placing them on a grid approximating the shape of the orbiter.  About 25 percent of the orbiter has been delivered to the hangar.

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla. -  Outside the Payload Hazardous Servicing Facility, the open door of the transport shows the shipping container with the second Mars Exploration Rover (MER-1) inside.  MER-2 and other hardware have already arrived at KSC for processing.  While at KSC, each of the rovers, their aeroshells and landers will undergo a full mission simulation. After spin balance testing,  each spacecraft will be mated to a solid propellant upper stage booster that will propel the spacecraft out of Earth orbit. Approximately 10 days before launch they will be transported to the launch pad for mating with their respective Boeing Delta II rockets. The rovers will serve as robotic geologists to seek answers about the evolution of Mars, particularly  for a history of water. The rovers are identical to each other, and will land at different regions of Mars.  Launch of the MER-1 is scheduled for May 30.  MER-2 will follow June 25.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -   In the Parachute Refurbishment Facility at NASA's Kennedy Space Center, technicians Mike Rothering (left) and James Murrell carefully fold an Ares-I parachute prior to packing.  Ares I is an in-line, two-stage rocket that will transport the Orion crew exploration vehicle to low-Earth orbit. The Ares I first stage will be a five-segment solid rocket booster based on the four-segment design used for the shuttle. As with the shuttle, this booster will fall away when spent, lowered by parachute into the Atlantic Ocean where it can be retrieved for re-use.
