Hundreds of Jeeps line up on Camp Lincoln prior to the start of the Peacekeepers Ride. Despite the rain, hundreds of riders participated in the annual event, which supports causes for service members and law enforcement officers.  The annual Peacekeepers ride starts at the Illinois National Guard headquarters on Camp Lincoln in Springfield. This year the ride, held on July 17, honored Illinois Army National Guard Col. (ret.) James Smith and Sangamon County Sheriff Department Sgt. Jason Boesdorfer, both of whom died in May. Smith served in the Illinois Army National Guard for 31 years retiring as the ILARNG Chief of Staff in 2008. He then went on to serve as the Illinois Department of Military Affairs Chief of Staff from 2008 until his death on May 11, 2022.

Approximately 10 members of the Pennsylvania Canine Search and Rescue (PACSAR) trained on a variety of scenarios Dec. 3, 2022, in a remote part of Fort Indiantown Gap designed to resemble a village. PACSAR is a group of highly trained and certified volunteers that offers search and rescue services free of charge and provide additional resources to other search and rescue teams, local law enforcement, and fire companies in Lancaster County and surrounding areas. Fort Indiantown Gap is consistently among the busiest National Guard training centers in the nation, hosting civilian partner agencies and organizations in addition to active, reserve and foreign allied militaries.
