Copperplate engraving from 'Physica Sacra' by the Swiss scholar, Johann Jakob Scheuchzer (1672 - 1733). Scheuchzer believed that the Old Testament was a factual representation of human history and natural life. Physica Sacra is a compilation of art, science, and spirituality. Scheuchzer uses the Bible as his reference point for describing the natural world. Physica Sacra is also known as the Kupfer-Bibel which translates to "Copper Bible."
