Norodom Sihanouk (born 31 October 1922) was the King of Cambodia from 1941 to 1955 and again from 1993 until his retirement and voluntary abdication on 7 October 2004 in favour of his son, the current King Norodom Sihamoni. Following his abdication he was known as The King-Father of Cambodia, a position in which he retained many of his former responsibilities as constitutional monarch. He died of a heart attack in Beijing, China, on October 15, 2012.

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (2 October 1869 30 January 1948) was the pre-eminent political and ideological leader of India during the Indian independence movement. He pioneered satyagraha. This is defined as resistance to tyranny through mass civil disobedience, a philosophy firmly founded upon ahimsa, or total non-violence. This concept helped India gain independence and inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world. Gandhi is often referred to as Mahatma Gandhi or 'Great Soul', an honorific first applied to him by Rabindranath Tagore. In India he is also called Bapu (Gujarati: 'Father') and officially honored in India as the Father of the Nation. His birthday, 2 October, is commemorated as Gandhi Jayanti, a national holiday, and worldwide as the International Day of Non-Violence. Gandhi was assassinated on 30 January 1948 by Nathuram Godse, a Hindu Nationalist.

Mahatma Gandhi (born 1 October 1869 - assassinated 30 January 1948) was an Indian pacifist, politician, prominent resistance fighter, lawyer and publicist. Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi at a meeting of the All-India Congress Committee in Bombay, on 6 July 1946, India He gained his first formative experiences with the cruelty of colonialism and resistance during his time in South Africa (1892-1914) . After returning to India, he successfully led the Indian independence movement against the British colonial power. India finally achieved independence in August 1947. About six months later, he was assassinated by a Hindu nationalist. He is regarded as an outstanding representative of the struggle for freedom against oppression, colonialism, racism and injustice.
