S119-E-010399 (25 March 2009) --- Backdropped by the blackness of space, the International Space Station is seen from Space Shuttle Discovery as the two spacecraft begin their relative separation. Earlier the STS-119 and Expedition 18 crews concluded 9 days, 20 hours and 10 minutes of cooperative work onboard the shuttle and station. Undocking of the two spacecraft occurred at 2:53 p.m. (CDT) on March 25, 2009.

S121-E-05554 (6 July 2006) --- The International Space Station is backdropped against the darkness of space in thisdigital image, recorded by the astronaut crewmembers onboard Space Shuttle Discovery. A little later, the shuttle and the orbital outpost linked up for what will be more than a week of joint activities for their respective crews.

S114-E-7284 (6 August 2005) --- Backdropped by the blackness of space, this full view of the International Space Station was photographed by a crewmember onboard the Space Shuttle Discovery following the undocking of the two spacecraft. Discovery pulled away from the complex at 2:24 a.m. (CDT) on August 6, 2005.

S115-E-05496 (11 Sept. 2006) --- One of the STS-115 crewmembers aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis took this picture of the International Space Station prior to the docking of the two spacecraft. The subsequent link-up will allow the STS-115 astronauts and the ISS Expedition 13 crew to team up for several days of key tasks in space.

ISS024-E-007201 (2 July 2010) --- The unpiloted ISS Progress 38 resupply vehicle approaches the International Space Station, bringing almost two tons of food, fuel, oxygen, propellant and supplies for the Expedition 24 crew members aboard the station. The attempted docking on July 2, 2010, was aborted when telemetry between the Progress and the space station was lost about 25 minutes before its planned docking. As a result, the Progress vehicle continued on its trajectory and glided past the space station. Later, the Progress successfully docked to the aft end of the Zvezda Service Module at 12:17 p.m. (EDT) on July 4, 2010. The docking was executed flawlessly by Progress Kurs automated rendezvous system.

ISS016-E-034177 (31 March 2008) --- Backdropped by the blackness of space, the Jules Verne Automated Transfer Vehicle (ATV) approaches the International Space Station on Monday, March 31, 2008, for its "Demo Day 2" practice maneuvers. It moved to within 36 feet of the Zvezda Service Module in a rehearsal for docking on Thursday.

ISS037-E-018544 (22 Oct. 2013) --- The International Space Stations Canadarm2 prepares to release the Orbital Sciences Cygnus commercial craft after three weeks at the space station. European Space Agency astronaut Luca Parmitano and NASA astronaut Karen Nyberg, both Expedition 37 flight engineers, were at the controls of the robotics workstation removing Cygnus from the Harmony node then safely releasing it at 7 31 a.m. (EDT) Oct. 22, 2013. On Oct. 23, the Cygnus will fire its engines for the last time at 1 41 p.m. and re-enter Earths atmosphere for destruction over the Pacific Ocean.

ISS039-E-016869 (23 April 2014) --- The unpiloted Progress 53 cargo ship undocks from the aft port of the Zvezda service module at 3:58 a.m. (CDT) on April 23 and begins its relative separation from the International Space Station for tests on its upgraded Kurs automated rendezvous system that were delayed from last November. The Russian resupply vehicle will move to a distance of some 300 miles from the complex before it begins to phase back in, testing the Kurs-NA rendezvous hardware and its associated software. The enhanced Kurs system will be incorporated into future Progress vehicles to reduce weight by eliminating several navigational antennas, thus enabling the Progress to carry additional supplies to the station. The Progress is scheduled to redock to Zvezda around 7:15 a.m. (CDT) April 25.

ISS038-E-001124 (10 Nov. 2013) --- The Soyuz TMA-09M spacecraft departs from the International Space Stations Zvezda Service Module and heads toward a landing near the town of Zhezkazgan, Kazakhstan on Nov. 11, 2013 (Kazakh time). Russian cosmonaut Fyodor Yurchikhin, Expedition 37 commander; along with NASA astronaut Karen Nyberg and European Space Agency astronaut Luca Parmitano, both flight engineers, are ending a five-and-a-half month stay at the space station where they served as members of the Expedition 36 and 37 crews.

S119-E-010399 (25 March 2009) --- Backdropped by the blackness of space, the International Space Station is seen from Space Shuttle Discovery as the two spacecraft begin their relative separation. Earlier the STS-119 and Expedition 18 crews concluded 9 days, 20 hours and 10 minutes of cooperative work onboard the shuttle and station. Undocking of the two spacecraft occurred at 2:53 p.m. (CDT) on March 25, 2009.

S135-E-011857 (19 July 2011) --- This picture of the International Space Station was photographed from the space shuttle Atlantis as the orbiting complex and the shuttle performed their relative separation in the early hours of July 19, 2011. Onboard the station were Russian cosmonauts Andrey Borisenko, Expedition 28 commander; Sergei Volkov and Alexander Samokutyaev, both flight engineers; Japan Aerospace Exploration astronaut Satoshi Furukawa, and NASA astronauts Mike Fossum and Ron Garan, all flight engineers. Onboard the shuttle were NASA astronauts Chris Ferguson, STS-135 commander; Doug Hurley, pilot; and Sandy Magnus and Rex Walheim, both mission specialists.

S129-E-006396 (18 Nov. 2009) --- Backdropped by the blackness of space, the International Space Station is featured in this image photographed by an STS-129 crew member as Space Shuttle Atlantis and the station approach each other during rendezvous and docking activities on flight day three. Docking occurred at 10:51 a.m. (CST) on Nov. 18, 2009.

ISS014-E-12150 (16 Jan. 2007) --- Backdropped by the blackness of space, an unpiloted Progress 22 supply vehicle departs from the Pirs Docking Compartment of the International Space Station on Jan. 16, 2007, carrying its load of trash and unneeded equipment to be deorbited and burned up in Earth's atmosphere. The undocking clears the way for the arrival of a new Progress 24, planned to launch January 17 and dock with the station on January 19.

STS98-E-5031 (9 February 2001) --- International Space Station (ISS) is backdropped against the blackness of space as Space Shuttle Atlantis approaches. The scene was recorded with a digital still camera by one of the STS-98 astronauts aboard the shuttle.

S133-E-006859 (26 Feb. 2011) --- The International Space Station is featured in this image photographed by an STS-133 crew member on space shuttle Discovery as the shuttle approaches the station during rendezvous and docking operations. Docking occurred at 2:14 p.m. (EST) on Feb. 26, 2011.

S103-E-5454 (25 December 1999) --- Moments after the freeing of the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) by Discovery's remote manipulator system (RMS), astronauts in the shuttle's cabin took a series of electronic stills of the giant observatory.

iss064e033785 (Feb. 17, 2021) --- Russia's uncrewed ISS Progress 77 resupply ship is pictured approaching its docking port on the International Space Station's Pirs docking compartment.

STS088-703-019 (4-15 Dec. 1998) --- The U.S.-built Unity connecting module (bottom) and the Russian-built Zarya module are backdropped against the blackness of space in this 70mm photograph taken from the Space Shuttle Endeavour. After devoting the major portion of its mission time to various tasks to ready the two docked modules for their International Space Station (ISS) roles, the six-member STS-88 crew released the tandem and performed a fly-around survey of the hardware.

ISS017-E-005014 (19 April 2008) --- Backdropped by the blackness of space and Earth's horizon, the Soyuz TMA-11 spacecraft departs from the International Space Station carrying NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson, Expedition 16 commander; Russian Federal Space Agency cosmonaut Yuri Malenchenko, flight engineer and Soyuz commander; and South Korean spaceflight participant So-yeon Yi. Undocking occurred at 1:06 a.m. (EDT) on April 19, 2008.

STS110-E-5912 (17 April 2002) --- This is one a series of digital still images of the International Space Station (ISS) recorded by the STS-110 crew members on board the Space Shuttle Atlantis following the undocking of the two spacecraft some 247 statute miles above the North Atlantic. Atlantis pulled away from the complex at 1:31 p.m. (CDT). After more than a week of joint operations between the shuttle and station crews, astronaut Stephen N. Frick, pilot, backed Atlantis away to a distance of about 400 feet in front of the station, where he began a 1 1/4 lap flyaround of the ISS, newly equipped with the 27,000 pound S0 (S-zero) truss, visible in this series of images. S0 is the first segment of a truss structure which will ultimately expand the station to the length of a football field.

S124-E-010045 (11 June 2008) --- Backdropped by the blackness of space, the International Space Station is seen from Space Shuttle Discovery as the two spacecraft begin their relative separation. Earlier the STS-124 and Expedition 17 crews concluded almost nine days of cooperative work onboard the shuttle and station. Undocking of the two spacecraft occurred at 6:42 a.m. (CDT) on June 11, 2008.

One of the astronauts aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery took this photograph, from the aft flight deck of the Discovery, of the International Space Station (ISS) in orbit. The photo was taken after separation of the orbiter Discovery from the ISS after several days of joint activities and an important crew exchange.

ISS030-E-238835 (19 April 2012) --- The trash-filled ISS Progress 46 spacecraft departs from the International Space Station on April 19, 2012. Russian flight controllers will command the Progress 46 for several days of tests, and then send it to burn up in Earths atmosphere over the Pacific Ocean.

ISS040-E-000418 (18 May 2014) --- The SpaceX Dragon commercial cargo craft is pictured just prior to being released by the International Space Station's Canadarm2 robotic arm on May 18, 2014, to allow it to head toward a splashdown in the Pacific Ocean.

ISS040-E-008865 (9 June 2014) --- The unpiloted ISS Progress 53 resupply craft separates from the International Space Station. Undocking from the Zvezda Service Module aft port occurred at 9 29 a.m. (EDT) on June 9, 2014.

ISS027-E-036816 (23 May 2011) --- This image of the International Space Station and the docked space shuttle Endeavour, flying at an altitude of approximately 220 miles, was taken by Expedition 27 crew member Paolo Nespoli from the Soyuz TMA-20 following its undocking on May 23, 2011 (USA time). The pictures taken by Nespoli are the first taken of a shuttle docked to the International Space Station from the perspective of a Russian Soyuz spacecraft. Onboard the Soyuz were Russian cosmonaut and Expedition 27 commander Dmitry Kondratyev; Nespoli, a European Space Agency astronaut; and NASA astronaut Cady Coleman. Coleman and Nespoli were both flight engineers. The three landed in Kazakhstan later that day, completing 159 days in space.

STS114-304-015 (28 July 2005) --- Backdropped by the blackness of space, the International Space Station was photographed by an STS-114 crewmember aboard Space Shuttle Discovery during rendezvous and docking operations. Discovery docked with the Station at 6:18 a.m. (CDT) on Thursday July 28, 2005.

ISS007-E-17748 (20 October 2003) --- Two days after launching from Kazakhstan, the Soyuz TMA-3 spacecraft, carrying the two Expedition 8 crewmembers, astronaut C. Michael Foale, American commander and NASA ISS science officer; and Russian cosmonaut Alexander Kaleri, flight engineer and Soyuz commander, along with European Space Agency astronaut Pedro Duque, docked with the International Space Station at 2:16 a.m. CDT (0716 GMT) October 20. At the time of the actual docking, both spacecraft were orbiting Earth above Russia.

ISS030-E-174978 (28 March 2012) --- European Space Agencys Edoardo Amaldi Automated Transfer Vehicle-3 (ATV-3) approaches the International Space Station. The unmanned cargo spacecraft docked to the space station at 6:31 p.m. (EDT) on March 28, 2012, delivering 220 pounds of oxygen, 628 pounds of water, 4.5 tons of propellant, and nearly 2.5 tons of dry cargo, including experiment hardware, spare parts, food and clothing.

STS071-704-091 (4 July 1995) --- Russia's Soyuz spacecraft is backdropped against the darkness of space, as photographed from the space shuttle Atlantis. Onboard Soyuz were Mir-19 cosmonauts Anatoly Y. Solovyev and Nikolai M. Budarin. The 70mm photograph was recorded during the Space Shuttle Atlantis' undocking operations from the Russian Mir Space Station on July 4, 1995. Soyuz was temporarily undocked and backed away from the Mir/Atlantis tandem as the Space Shuttle Atlantis prepared to separate from the linkup. Six NASA astronauts and two cosmonauts were onboard Atlantis as it separated from Mir, which will now become the home for the two-member Mir-19 crew.

STS104-E-5027 (14 July 2001) --- The International Space Station (ISS), with the Expedition Two crew onboard, awaits its rendezvous with the Space Shuttle Atlantis. The picture was made with a digital still camera from the shuttle's aft flight deck.

iss064e044880 (March, 19, 2021) --- The Soyuz MS-17 crew ship, carrying Expedition 64 crew members Kate Rubins, Sergey Ryzhikov and Sergey Kud-Sverchkov, maneuvers to its new space-facing port on the Poisk module following its undocking from the Rassvet module's Earth-facing port just a few minutes earlier.

ISS031-E-070799 (25 May 2012) --- The SpaceX Dragon commercial cargo craft is grappled by the Canadarm2 robotic arm at the International Space Station. Expedition 31 Flight Engineers Don Pettit and Andre Kuipers grappled Dragon at 9:56 a.m. (EDT) and used the robotic arm to berth Dragon to the Earth-facing side of the stations Harmony node at 12:02 p.m. May 25, 2012. Dragon became the first commercially developed space vehicle to be launched to the station to join Russian, European and Japanese resupply craft that service the complex while restoring a U.S. capability to deliver cargo to the orbital laboratory. Dragon is scheduled to spend about a week docked with the station before returning to Earth on May 31 for retrieval.

STS109-E-5704 (9 March 2002) --- The Hubble Space Telescope, sporting new solar arrays and other important but less visible new hardware, begins its separation from the Space Shuttle Columbia. The STS-109 crew deployed the giant telescope at 4:04 a.m. CST (1004 GMT), March 9, 2002. Afterward, the seven crew members began to focus their attention to the trip home, scheduled for March 12. The STS-109 astronauts conducted five space walks to service and upgrade Hubble. This image was recorded with a digital still camera.

ISS029-E-036162 (2 Nov. 2011) --- An unpiloted ISS Progress resupply vehicle approaches the International Space Station, carrying 1,653 pounds of propellant, 110 pounds of oxygen, 926 pounds of water and 3,108 pounds of maintenance gear, spare parts, experiment hardware and resupply items for the residents of the space station. Progress 45 docked to the stations Pirs docking compartment at 7:41 a.m. (EDT) on Nov. 2, 2011.

ISS032-E-011284 (30 July 2012) --- The unpiloted Russian Progress 47 supply vehicle departs from the International Space Station on July 30, 2012. The trash-filled Progress will orbit Earth for several weeks of engineering tests before re-entering the Earths atmosphere over the Pacific Ocean. The departure of Progress 47 clears the way for the next unpiloted supply ship, Progress 48, which is set to launch at 3:35 p.m. (EDT) on Aug. 1 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. Docking is targeted less than six hours later at 9:24 p.m. to the stations Pirs Docking Compartment.

STS081-736-034 (14 Jan 1997) --- This 70mm frame affords a full view of Russias Mir Space Station complex during approach for docking, backdropped against the blackness of space. Astronaut Jerry M. Linenger, now onboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis, will trade places with John E. Blaha, current cosmonaut guest researcher onboard Mir since mid September 1996. Along with Linenger, other crew members now aboard Atlantis are astronauts Michael A. Baker, commander; Brent W. Jett, Jr., pilot; and mission specialists John M. Grunsfeld, Marsha S. Ivins and Peter J. K. (Jeff) Wisoff.

ISS020-E-016718 (2 July 2009) --- The Soyuz TMA-14 spacecraft is featured in this image photographed by an Expedition 20 crew member on the International Space Station during the relocation of the Soyuz from the Zvezda Service Modules aft port to the Pirs Docking Compartment. Cosmonaut Gennady Padalka, commander; along with NASA astronaut Michael Barratt and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) astronaut Koichi Wakata, both flight engineers, undocked the Soyuz spacecraft at 4:26 p.m. (CDT) and docked to the Pirs Docking Compartment at 4:54 p.m. on July 2, 2009.

iss063e055171 (July 23, 2020) --- Russia's Progress 76 resupply ship, packed with nearly three tons of food, fuel and supplies, approaches the International Space Station where it would dock to the Pirs docking compartment.

ISS026-E-022368 (29 Jan. 2011) --- An unpiloted ISS Progress resupply vehicle approaches the International Space Station, bringing 1,918 pounds of propellant, 110 pounds of oxygen, 926 pounds of water and 3,080 pounds of spare parts and supplies for the Expedition 26 crew members. Progress 41 docked to the stations Pirs Docking Compartment at 9:39 p.m. (EST) on Jan. 29, 2011.

ISS032-E-021085 (20 Aug. 2012) --- Russian cosmonaut Gennady Padalka, Expedition 32 commander, participates in a session of extravehicular activity (EVA) to continue outfitting the International Space Station. During the five-hour, 51-minute spacewalk, Padalka and Russian cosmonaut Yuri Malenchenko (out of frame), flight engineer, moved the Strela-2 cargo boom from the Pirs docking compartment to the Zarya module to prepare Pirs for its eventual replacement with a new Russian multipurpose laboratory module. The two spacewalking cosmonauts also installed micrometeoroid debris shields on the exterior of the Zvezda service module and deployed a small science satellite.

S122-E-009856 (18 Feb. 2008) --- Backdropped by the blackness of space, the International Space Station is seen from Space Shuttle Atlantis as the two spacecraft begin their relative separation. Earlier the STS-122 and Expedition 16 crews concluded almost nine days of cooperative work onboard the shuttle and station. Undocking of the two spacecraft occurred at 3:24 a.m. (CST) on Feb. 18, 2008.

S123-E-009354 (24 March 2008) --- Backdropped by the blackness of space, the International Space Station is seen from Space Shuttle Endeavour as the two spacecraft begin their relative separation. Earlier the STS-123 and Expedition 16 crews concluded 12 days of cooperative work onboard the shuttle and station. Undocking of the two spacecraft occurred at 7:25 p.m. (CDT) on March 24, 2008.

The Space Shuttle Atlantis' arm lifts the Hubble Space Telescope from the cargo bay

STS108-E-5628 (15 December 2001) --- As seen in an overall view from a digital still camera aimed through a window on Endeavour's aft flight deck, the International Space Station (ISS), now staffed with its fourth three-person crew, is backdropped against dark space. The scene was photographed during a farewell look from the shuttle following undocking. The Space Station Remote Manipulator System (SSRMS) or Canadarm2 protrudes from the orbital outpost at the bottom of the scene.

ISS003-E-8153 (22 November 2001) --- Backdropped by the blackness of space, an unpiloted Progress supply vehicle departs from the Zvezda Service Modules docking port on the International Space Station (ISS) carrying its load of trash and unneeded equipment to be deorbited and burned up in the atmosphere. Its undocking makes room for Progress 6, scheduled for launch from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 12:24 p.m. (CST) on Monday, November 26, 2001. The new Progress, filled with fresh supplies, is planned to dock to the station at 1:45 p.m. (CST) on Wednesday, November 28, 2001. This image was taken with a digital still camera.

S118-E-07117 (14 Aug. 2007) --- The Space Shuttle Endeavour's Remote Manipulator System (RMS) robotic arm (left) moves away following the hand-off of an external stowage platform (ESP-3) to the station's robotic arm while docked with the International Space Station. Astronauts Tracy Caldwell and Barbara R. Morgan, both STS-118 mission specialists, were inside at Endeavour's controls as the shuttle's robotic arm lifted the storage platform from the cargo bay to hand it over to the station's robotic arm, also known as Canadarm2. Astronauts Charlie Hobaugh, pilot, and Clay Anderson, Expedition 15 flight engineer, then used the Canadarm2 to attach the 13-by-7-foot platform to the station's Port 3 truss.

iss061e061461 (Nov. 29, 2019) --- Russia's Progress 73 (73P) cargo craft is pictured departing the International Space Station after undocking from the Pirs docking compartment. Loaded with trash, the 73P was deorbited a few hours later and burned up safely over the Pacific Ocean.

ISS041-E-000021 (10 Sept. 2014) --- The Soyuz TMA-12M spacecraft departs from the International Space Station and heads toward a landing in a remote area near the town of Zhezkazgan, Kazakhstan. NASA astronaut Steve Swanson, Expedition 40 commander; Russian cosmonaut Alexander Skvortsov, Soyuz commander and flight engineer; and Russian cosmonaut Oleg Artemyev, flight engineer, are returning from more than five months aboard the space station where they served as members of the Expedition 39 and 40 crews. Landing occurred at 10:23 p.m. (EDT), Sept. 10, 2014 (8:23 a.m., Sept. 11, Kazakh time).

STS076-713-092 (28 March 1996) --- The crew took this 70mm picture of Russia's Mir Space Station during a final "fly-around" following separation of the two spacecraft on March 28, 1996. The two spacecraft had docked on March 23, 1996, at which time Shannon W. Lucid joined two cosmonauts onboard for the first leg of a 140-day stay onboard Mir, as a cosmonaut guest researcher.

iss056e201302 (Oct. 4, 2018) --- The International Space Station photographed by Expedition 56 crew members from a Soyuz spacecraft after undocking. NASA astronauts Andrew Feustel and Ricky Arnold and Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Artemyev executed a fly around of the orbiting laboratory to take pictures of the station before returning home after spending 197 days in space. The station will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the launch of the first element Zarya in November 2018.

. iss068e019672 (Oct. 28, 2022) --- The ISS Progress 82 cargo craft, packed with three tons of food, fuel, and supplies, is pictured approaching the International Space Station for a docking to the Poisk module following a two-day trip that began with a launch from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

STS109-E-5035 (3 March 2002) --- The Hubble Space Telescope is visible against black space, primarily because its bright metallic disk-shaped base and the frame of its solar panels, as the Space Shuttle Columbia eases closer and closer in order to latch its 50-foot-long robotic arm onto a fixture on the giant telescope. As Columbia flew 350 miles above the Pacific Ocean Southwest of Mexico, with astronaut Nancy J. Currie, mission specialist, in control of the arm and astronaut Scott D. Altman, mission commander, at the controls of the shuttle, the seven-member crew went on to capture the Hubble. The image was one of a series recorded with a digital still camera.

ISS003-E-8303 (7 December 2001) --- The Space Shuttle Endeavour, controlled by the flight crew of STS-108, is backdropped against the blackness of space over Earth's horizon as it approaches the International Space Station (ISS). The Raffaello logistics module that is being brought up to the orbiting outpost is clearly visible in Endeavour's cargo bay. TheSpace Station Remote Manipulator System(SSRMS) or Canadarm2 is visible at lower right. Among other activities the Endeavour's mission will include the change out of the station crews. The image was recorded with a digital still camera.

STS105-707-055 (20 August 2001) --- This view of the International Space Station (ISS) was captured with a 70mm handheld camera through the Space Shuttle Discovery's crew optical alignment system (COAS) during separation operations. The undocking took place at 9:52 a.m. (CDT), August 20, 2001.

41C-34-1380 (10-11 April 1984) --- Astronaut George D. Nelson, using the manned maneuvering unit (MMU), arrives at the ailing Solar Maximum Mission Satellite (SMMS). After the STS-41C crewmembers captured the errant satellite and temporarily cradled it in Challengers payload bay, astronauts Nelson and James D. van Hoften repaired it and later re-released it.

S133-E-011251 (7 March 2011) --- Backdropped against the blackness of space, the International Space Station is seen from Discovery as the two orbital spacecraft accomplish their relative separation on March 7 after an aggregate of 12 astronauts and cosmonauts worked together for over a week. During a post undocking fly-around, the crew members aboard the two spacecraft collected a series of photos of each others vehicle.

ISS036-E-007845 (15 June 2013) --- Surrounded by the blackness of space, the European Space Agency's Automated Transfer Vehicle-4 (ATV-4) Albert Einstein” approaches the International Space Station. ISS020-E-015692 (30 June 2009) --- An unpiloted ISS Progress 33 cargo craft, filled with trash and unneeded items, departs from the International Space Stations Pirs Docking Compartment at 1:30 p.m. (CDT) on June 30, 2009. The Progress was commanded into a parking orbit for its re-rendezvous with the ISS on July 12, approaching to within 10-15 meters of the Zvezda Service Module to test new automated rendezvous equipment mounted on Zvezda during a pair of spacewalks earlier this month by Gennady Padalka and Mike Barratt that will be used to guide the new Mini-Research Module-2 (MRM2) to an unpiloted docking to the zenith port of Zvezda later this year. MRM2 will serve as a new docking port for Russian spacecraft and an additional airlock for spacewalks conducted out of the Russian segment.

ISS020-E-043936 (2 Oct. 2009) --- The Soyuz TMA-16 spacecraft approaches the International Space Station, carrying NASA astronaut Jeffrey Williams, Expedition 21 flight engineer; Russian cosmonaut Maxim Suraev, Soyuz commander and flight engineer; and spaceflight participant Guy Laliberté. Williams and Suraev will spend six months on the station, while Laliberté will return to Earth on Oct. 10 with two of the Expedition 20 crew members currently on the complex. Docking to the Zvezda Service Module aft port occurred at 3:35 a.m. (CDT) on Oct. 2, 2009.

ISS023-E-026925 (22 April 2010) --- The unpiloted ISS Progress 35 supply vehicle departs from the International Space Station's Pirs Docking Compartment on April 22, 2010. Filled with trash and discarded items, the Progress will be used for scientific experiments until it is deorbited and burned up in Earth's atmosphere. Its departure clears the way for the ISS Progress 37 cargo ship that is scheduled to launch to the station April 28.

ISS037-E-000034 (10 Sept. 2013) --- The Soyuz TMA-08M spacecraft departs from the International Space Stations Poisk Mini-Research Module 2 (MRM2) and heads toward a landing in a remote area near the town of Zhezkazgan, Kazakhstan, on Sept. 11, 2013 (Kazakhstan time). Russian cosmonaut Pavel Vinogradov, Expedition 36 commander; along with NASA astronaut Chris Cassidy and Russian cosmonaut Alexander Misurkin, both flight engineers, are ending a five-and-a-half month stay at the space station where they served as members of the Expedition 35 and 36 crews.

ISS017-E-015446 (5 Sept. 2008) --- Backdropped by the blackness of space, European Space Agency's (ESA) "Jules Verne" Automated Transfer Vehicle (ATV) begins its relative separation from the International Space Station. The ATV undocked from the aft port of the Zvezda Service Module at 4:29 p.m. (CDT) on Sept. 5, 2008 and was placed in a parking orbit for three weeks, scheduled to be deorbited on Sept. 29 when lighting conditions are correct for an ESA imagery experiment of reentry.

ISS037-E-002665 (25 Sept. 2013) --- The Soyuz TMA-10M spacecraft approaches the International Space Station, carrying Expedition 37 Soyuz Commander Oleg Kotov, NASA Flight Engineer Michael Hopkins and Russian Flight Engineer Sergey Ryazanskiy. The Soyuz docked to the Poisk Mini-Research Module 2 (MRM2) at 10:45 p.m. (EDT) on Sept. 25, 2013.

ISS031-E-070804 (25 May 2012) --- The SpaceX Dragon commercial cargo craft is grappled by the Canadarm2 robotic arm at the International Space Station. Expedition 31 Flight Engineers Don Pettit and Andre Kuipers grappled Dragon at 9:56 a.m. (EDT) and used the robotic arm to berth Dragon to the Earth-facing side of the stations Harmony node at 12:02 p.m. May 25, 2012. Dragon became the first commercially developed space vehicle to be launched to the station to join Russian, European and Japanese resupply craft that service the complex while restoring a U.S. capability to deliver cargo to the orbital laboratory. Dragon is scheduled to spend about a week docked with the station before returning to Earth on May 31 for retrieval.

ISS036-E-007840 (15 June 2013) --- Surrounded by the blackness of space, the European Space Agency's Automated Transfer Vehicle-4 (ATV-4) Albert Einstein” approaches the International Space Station. The spacecraft went on to successfully dock to the orbital outpost at 2:07 GMT, June 15, 2013, following a ten-day period of free-flight.

S125-E-011764 (19 May 2009) --- The Space Shuttle Atlantis remote manipulator system arm lifts the Hubble Space Telescope from the cargo bay and is moments away from releasing the orbital observatory to start it on its way back home to observe the universe.

S119-E-008220 (25 March 2009) --- Backdropped by the blackness of space, the International Space Station is seen from Space Shuttle Discovery as the two spacecraft begin their relative separation. Earlier the STS-119 and Expedition 18 crews concluded 9 days, 20 hours and 10 minutes of cooperative work onboard the shuttle and station. Undocking of the two spacecraft occurred at 2:53 p.m. (CDT) on March 25, 2009.

STS113-310-023 (28 November 2002) --- Astronaut John B. Herrington, STS-113 mission specialist, anchored on the mobile foot restraint on the International Space Stations (ISS) Canadarm2, moves the Crew and Equipment Translation Aid (CETA) during the missions second scheduled spacewalk. The final major task of the spacewalk was the relocation of the CETA cart from the Port One (P1) to the Starboard One (S1) Truss, which will allow the Mobile Transporter to move along the P1 to assist in upcoming assembly missions.

S116-E-07159 (19 Dec. 2006) --- Backdropped by the blackness of space, the International Space Station moves away from Space Shuttle Discovery. Earlier the STS-116 and Expedition 14 crews concluded eight days of cooperative work onboard the shuttle and station. Undocking of the two spacecraft occurred at 4:10 p.m. (CST) on Dec. 19, 2006. Astronaut William A. (Bill) Oefelein, STS-116 pilot, was at the controls for the fly-around, which gave Discovery's crew a look at its handiwork, a new P5 spacer truss segment and a fully retracted P6 solar array wing. During their stay on orbital outpost, the combined crew installed the newest piece of the station's backbone and completely rewired the power grid over the course of four spacewalks.

STS113-E-5037 (25 November 2002) --- The International Space Station (ISS)is backdropped against the blackness of space as the Space Shuttle Endeavourquickly closes the distance to the orbital outpost for a Nov. 25 rendezvous. Endeavourwent on to dock with the International Space Station at 3:59 p.m. (CST),bringing a new crew and another segment of the station's backbone, the Port One (P1)segment of the Integrated Truss System. The rendezvous and docking of Endeavour with astronaut James D. Wetherbee, mission commander, at the controls, occurred about 248 statute miles above the South Pacific off the southeastern coast of Australia.

S106-E-5054 (10 September 2000) --- The International Space Station (ISS) is now in the view of the crew aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis as evidenced in this electronic image. The markings in the photo are those of the Crew Optical Alignment Sight (COAS), an instrument used routinely for docking maneuvers.The last time astronauts saw the ISS,it was not sporting the recently-arriving Progress, whichappears at the top in this perspective.Also, a Proton had earlier delivered theZvezda service module to the station since the last human visit.

This image of Skylab in orbit was taken by the Skylab-2 crew before departing for Earth. The crew made a careful visual and photographic inspection of the orbiting laboratory. It shows the parasol sunshade, deployed by the crew, protecting the workshop. While unmarned, it operated at reduced power with many of its systems either inoperative or operating at reduced capacity.

The Canadarm2 robotic arm, guided by NASA astronaut Jessica Meir with fellow Flight Engineer Christina Koch as her back up, is poised to capture the 12th resupply ship from Northrop Grumman.

iss063e041198 (July 8, 2020) --- The forward end of the Progress 76 resupply ship from Roscosmos is pictured shortly after it undocked from the Pirs docking compartment completing a seven-month stay at the International Space Station.

STS-71, Space Shuttle Atlantis still cornected to Russia's Mir Space Station, was taken by the Mir crew. Cosmonauts Solovyuv and Budarin temporarily unparked the Soyuz for the cluster of Mir eleme.
