On the left panel is shown at the top of a lamb with a staff and at the bottom of a man with a shield and a spear with houses in the background and a sun and the letter J. on the right is shown at the top of an anchor with two fish and at the bottom of a man With a shield, sword and spear with a hand that comes out of the clouds and there a bowl with the words Gedeon Hic-Ros Si Illatt. This development was supported by technical advances that made it possible to produce larger plates of mirror glass and driven by the ambition of princes to imitate the magnificent Galerie des Glaces in the suite of state rooms at Versailles, created in 1681-84 by Charles Le Brun (1619-1690) for Louis XIV of France.1At the end of the seventeenth century, goods and artistic ideas flowed through northeastern Europe along trade routes that connected English and Netherlandish ports with the cities along the Baltic Sea and points east. The latest fashions were eagerly received and copied as closely as local craftsmen could manage and local patrons could afford.
