Venice: The Rialto Workshop of Francesco Guardi Italian Guardis views of Venice were hugely popular among eighteenth-century visitors to the city, but not all were by the artist himself: his workshop reproduced compositions and motifs based on his earlier paintings and drawings, while emulators took advantage of the market for the taste he had helped to set. These pendants include several elements known from Guardis drawings and were most likely executed by assistants in his studio, working on the modest scale that was perfectly suited to customers seeking a souvenir but not the financial commitment of a large painting by the master.. View of London from Greenwich 1825 Joseph Mallord William Turner British Turner here offers a panorama of greater London as seen from Greenwich Park, looking down towards the Naval Hospital designed by Sir Christopher Wren, the river Thames, and the distant city. The foreground is littered with maps and globes, with a woman holding up two plans for a naval pensioner with spectacles and crutches to inspect-a reference to England's past. Slightly behind, a man dressed in a fashionably tall top hat and yellow gloves raises his hands to celebrate the burgeoning present. Finally, a third figure further down the hill peers through a telescope at steam boats racing past sailing ships on the river-a hint at the future. The watercolor belongs to a group that the artist made around 1825, devoted to the nation's capital city. The intent was to reproduce the series as prints but the project was never realized.. The Seine River, Paris', 17th century. Artist: Mathieu Schoewaerdts. Mathieu Schoewaerdts (c1665-1702) was a Flemish painter, draughtsman and printmaker. He is known mainly for his landscapes with trees, marines and genre scenes.

Capriccio with St. Paul's and Old London Bridge. Artist: Antonio Joli (Italian, Modena 1700-1777 Naples). Dimensions: 42 x 47 in. (106.7 x 119.4 cm).A pupil of Paolo Panini in Rome, Joli was active as a scene painter in northern Italy and especially in Venice (1732-42), where he was influenced by the work of Canaletto. From 1744 until 1748 he worked in London at the King's Theatre in the Haymarket and also produced topographical paintings. The present picture combines the two genres; the imaginary foreground is inspired by antiquity, while in the background is a view of the north bank of the Thames with St. Paul's cathedral, the Tower of London, and Old London Bridge. An Amsterdam Canal House Garden. The garden of this Amsterdam canal house radiates tranquillity and prosperity. At centre is a gilded statue of Fortuna, symbol of the familys good fortune. In the bright sunlight, the master of the house picks grapes with his daughter, while in the foreground in the shade a maidservant cleans vegetables. A tame parrot looks on, hoping for a tasty tidbit.

David Roberts RA (1796-1864) was a Scottish painter. He is especially known for a prolific series of detailed prints of Egypt and the Near East that he produced during the 1840s from sketches he made during long tours of the region (1838-1840). This work, and his large oil paintings of similar subjects, made him a prominent Orientalist painter. He was elected as a Royal Academician in 1841.
