Analogy late 18th century Katsukawa Shunshō　川春章 Japanese The beauty of Shunshō's print gathers further elegance from two layers of poetic devices—a visual allustion to the imagery in a poem describing a love "as infinite as the shells upon the shore" and the analogy itself, discussed at length in the preface to the Kokin waka shū. The passage from the preface is quoted in the cloud at the top of the print. Kitagawa Utamaro (ca. 1753 - October 31, 1806) was a Japanese printmaker and painter, who is considered one of the greatest artists of woodblock prints (ukiyo-e). He is known especially for his masterfully composed studies of women, known as bijinga. He also produced nature studies, particularly illustrated books of insects.

The actors Ichikaiwa Danjûrô VII (1791-1859) in the role of Yoshimune No Munesada and Ichikawa Omezô (1769-1833) such as Sekibei from the play Tsumoru Koi Yuki No Sekino photo, raised in the Ichimura Theater in Edo in 1821.
