During late 1920s and 1930s Japan, a new poster style developed that reflected the growing influence of the masses in Japanese society. These art posters were strongly influenced by the emerging political forces of Communism and Fascism in Europe and the Soviet Union, adopting a style that incorporated bold slogans with artistic themes ranging from Leftist socialist realism through Stateism and state-directed public welfare, to Militarism and Imperialist expansionism. Though diverse in their messages, all bear the stamp of the ovebearing proletarian art of the time, reflecting shades of Nazi Germany, Socialist Russia and Fascist Italy in the Far East.

Part of a jingle or folk song amiably mocking the American Dr Marion Alonzo Cheek and the British businessman Louis Leonowens for keeping a harem of local Chiang Mai women. The rhyme runs in part: Dr Chitt and Missa Louis Sleeping with two girls Two nights for fifteen rupees Miss Luang is on the bed Miss On is waiting Hurry up and finish Doctor! Dr Chitt and Missa Louis Sleeping with two girls Two nights for fifteen rupees Miss Kum asked for silver Miss Huan asked for cloth Miss Noja asked for an elephant Hurry up and finish Doctor! The Tai Tham script is used for three living languages: Northern Thai (that is, Kham Mueang), Tai Lu and Khun. In addition, the Lanna script is also used for Lao Tham (or old Lao) and other dialect variants in Buddhist palm leaves and notebooks. The script is also known as Tham or Yuan script.

Kama and Rati Witness the Reunion of Krishna and Radha, Page from a Gita Govinda Series Indian. Kama and Rati Witness the Reunion of Krishna and Radha, Page from a Gita Govinda Series, 1714. Opaque watercolor and gold on paper, sheet: 10 x 16 15/16 in. (25.4 x 43.0 cm);. The Gita Govinda is a poem written by the twelfth-century poet Jayadeva. It describes the tumultuous love between the god Krishna and the milkmaid Radha. With its melding of romantic and religious sentiments, the Gita Govinda explores an important form of bhakti (devotion), in which a worshippers intense relationship with god is compared to a passionate love affair. This illustration from the poem shows Krishna three times: alone; cavorting with a group of women; and then finally reunited with his beloved Radha. Asian Art 1714

Jiang Qing (Chiang Ch'ing, March 1914 - May 14, 1991) was the pseudonym that was used by Chinese leader Mao Zedong's last wife, a major Communist Party of China power figure. She went by the stage name Lan Ping during her acting career, and was known by various other names during her life. She married Mao in Yan'an in November 1938, and is sometimes referred to as Madame Mao in Western literature, serving as Communist China's first first lady. Jiang Qing was most well-known for playing a major role in the Cultural Revolution (1966-76) and for forming the radical political alliance known as the 'Gang of Four'. When Mao died in 1976, Jiang lost the support and justification for her political activities. She was arrested in October 1976 by Hua Guofeng and his allies, and was subsequently accused of being counter-revolutionary. Though initially sentenced to death, her sentence was commuted to life imprisonment in 1983, however, and in May 1991 she was released for medical treatment. Befor
