William Merritt Chases knack for realistic characterization is evident in these deftly executed informal portraits, possibly representing his fellow students at the Royal Academy in Munich. Photo album with recordings of the Bergsma family in Tandjong Pura and Rantan Pandjang (Sumatra), Anonymous, 1914 - 1926 scrapbook Photo album in weak green -gray cover of gaufreed paper. On the front a geometric decoration and handwritten the inscription 'Tandjong Pura Rantan Pandjang November 1914'. This refers to two places on Sumatra, the latter also known as Rantau Pandjang. The album contains 12 separate magazines that may have been attached to the cover and a total of 51 -glued photos. They are recordings of the Bergsma family: father Eiso, mother Gerda (born Henry) and the children Georges, Hans and Netta. The family lived in Tandjong Pura on Sumatra. It is unclear which function Eiso Bergsma fulfilled there, he may have been a planter. They are mainly photos in the private sphere: exterior and interior of their home, the children, household staff, a car and family portraits.
