Gen. Daniel Hokanson, Chief of the National Guard Bureau made a visit to Chicago Nov. 21. While in town, Gen. Hokanson met with Air Force Maj. Gen. Rich Neely, the Adjutant General of Illinois and Commander of the Illinois National Guard, Army Brig. Gen. Janeen Birckhead, Commander of the Maryland Army National Guard, and business leaders from throughout the country for a luncheon to discuss the skills National Guard service members bring to the workforce and how the National Guard can continue to work with business to strengthen the economy moving forward. Hokanson is the top military officer for the entire National Guard and a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He directly advises President Joe Biden and Secretary of Defense Lloyd James Austin.

Kilmer in Korea, explains how Kilmer saved his life during a ceremony commemorating the 70th anniversary of his death. Kilmer was killed, during the attack on Bunker Hill, while using his body to shield another man from enemy fire. On June 18, 1953, Kilmers mother and brother were presented the Medal of Honor for his actions on Aug. 12, 1952.

An inactivation ceremony was held for the 553rd Air Force Band, also known as the Air National Guard Band of the Northeast, at the 193rd Regional Support Group, Fort Indiantown Gap, Pa., Jan. 6, 2024. The 553rd Air Force Band traces its lineage back to the 53rd Army Air Forces Band formed in Rapid City, S.D., on Aug. 2, 1942.
