The child is Alexander Pope, an English poet who lived from 1688 to 1744. Among his works are Essay on Criticism, The Rape of the Lock, and An Essay on Man. The lady is Alexander's aunt who doted on him. Alexander had been a bit hunchbacked from birth.

Nasreddine Dinet was born as Alphonse-Étienne Dinet; (1861 - 1929) was a French orientalist painter and was one of the founders of the Société des Peintres Orientalistes. He became so enchanted with North Africa (Algeria) and its culture, that he converted to Islam, and was proficient in Arabic.
