Montauk Point Lighthouse. Montauk Point Lighthouse, a picturesque white, octagonal, pyramidal tower, with a brown band midway, is situated high on a bluff at the east end of Long Island on the Atlantic Coast. Its lantern, 168 feet above the water, sends a flashing white light visible for 19 miles in clear weather. Montauk Point Light was established in 1797 and is typical of the numerous lights maintained by the Coast Guard along the Atlantic Coast.
