The Rest on the Flight into Egypt Pier Francesco Mola Italian Mola gives the conventional subject of Mary and Joseph fleeing the wrath of King Herod the charm of an idyllic day in the country. This approach was popularized in the preceding century by Titian, whose pastoral landscapes Mola emulates on a small scale suited for hanging in a study or bedroom. The view across a valley towards the Alps recalls one he drew from his home in Como. The picture was painted before Mola moved to Rome in 1647.. The Rest on the Flight into Egypt 437101

The Circumcision. Artist: Workshop of Giovanni Bellini (Italian, Venice, active by 1459-died 1516 Venice). Dimensions: 26 3/4 x 40 1/2 in. (67.9 x 102.9 cm). Date: 1511.The picture was produced in Bellini's workshop and follows a cartoon by the master. In the most distinguished example of the composition, in the National Gallery, London, the figures are shown with slight variations against a dark, neutral background instead of a landscape. The present picture has been attributed to Vincenzo Catena, but the resemblances to his work are superficial. The picture has been badly overcleaned. In consequence, the forms look schematic. Bust of the Virgin mid-18th century Probably woven under the direction of Pietro Ferloni This tapestry is not a fragment, but is instead a small, devotional work. The representation of the praying Virgin Mary is based on a painted prototype by Guido Reni perpetuated in many derivative paintings. The tapestry is attributed to weavers working in Rome at the San Michele manufactory, which had been founded in 1710 by Pope Clement XI to complement the wool and dyeing workshops at the orphanage of San Michele a Ripa. It is part of a large group of technically proficient tapestries, many made as diplomatic gifts, modelled after paintings in the Vatican collection. With the exception of a handful of more sophisticated tapestry series (like Gerusalemme Liberata, four pieces of which are also in The Mets collection), these woven copies comprised the main activity of the San Michele weavers, alongside repair and restoration of older northern European tapestries in the papal collection.. Archangel Raphael Unknown. Archangel Raphael, late 17th or early 18th century. Oil on burlap, 32 1/4 x 24 1/8in. (81.9 x 61.3cm). Full-length paintings of archangels based on European prints and medieval Apocryphal sources are recorded in the inventories of Spanish American collectors of various backgrounds. According to the 1797 inventory of the estate of a wealthy Aymara woman, María Angela Cachicatari, the main room of her primary residence in Juli included twenty-five paintings, six of which were of angels.” Images of archangels were displayed high on the walls of elite interiors (see illustration), suggesting that their purpose was more decorative than devotional. This painting on burlap was most likely produced on speculation for a growing art market rather than commissioned. Las pinturas de cuerpo entero de arcángeles basadas en copias europeas y en fuentes medievales apócrifas aparecen registradas en inventarios de coleccionistas de Hispanoamérica.
