Electric machines. The image is from the lumal lamp in Stockholm and shows the inspection of 2,000 watts light bulbs. Lumafabriken manufactures 40,000 lamps a day (1948) and stock over 4,000 different types: standard lamps, headlight lamps, narrow film lamps, ultraviolet radiators, mercury vapor lamps, fluorescent lamps, car lights and cycles. In addition, a variety of specially made lamps for scientific, military and other purposes are manufactured.

A Substitute For Quinine- the Production of Mepacrine at a Factory Near London, England, UK, 1945 Mrs Edgington fills the hopper of a 'granulator' with the ingredients of Mepacrine, which are in the form of a wet paste. The 'granulator' forces slightly more solid 'strings' of Mepacrine out of the sides of the machine. The original caption states that Mrs Edgington has two sons serving in the Middle East and hopes that 'if they need a dose of quinine they will get one of the pills she helps to make'.

Seaweed Research In Scotland - Tests being carried out on samples of Scottish seaweed at the seaweed Research Institute. New Fibre Now in Production. The latest announcement from the Institute of Seaweed Research at Inverask is now in production. This new fibre, produced as a result into the uses of seaweed, is water and fireproof, and the opens up the possibility of using the material in the production of uniform for firemen and munition workers, for safety curtains for theatres and in aircraft and ships. Over 10 million tons seaweed grow around the coats of Scotland, and scientists are continuously engaged on research which each year yields over 30,000 tons of the new chemical fucoidin.
