Ellis Island. Coast guard boat patrol. This island was the main gateway to all immigrants arriving in New York from 1892-1954. Here they spent almost 100 million people mainly from Ireland, England, Germany and Italy among other countries, which were first examined to verify that they had no disease, and were then recorded. At present, and based on photographs, luggage and similar goods to these immigrants carrying one can make a pretty good idea of what they lived.
