The Arrival of the Royal Charles. The Royal Charles was the most powerful warship in the English fleet. The Dutch captured the vessel during the raid on the naval base at Chatham in June 1667 and moved it to the Dutch port of Hellevoetsluis. The English ships flag is lowered to signify its surrender. He emigrated to England with his father in 1674, both were employed in the service of King Charles II. The accurate depiction of the ship enabled it to be identified as the seventy-gun galleon HMS Hampton Court built for the King's first naval fleet... A drawing of the Hampton Court by Willem the Elder (1611-1693) is in the collection of the National Maritime Museum, London.
