Tarr's gallantry and intrepidity in action in the Solomons have brought him the Silver Star, personally presented by Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, U.S.N., and promotion from boatswain's mate first class to chief. The Coast Guardsman, who comes from Chincoteague Island, Va., was coxswain of a landing barge at Tulagi. After landing a Marine contingent without loss in the face of hot Japanese fire, he made several more trips with ammunition.
