Umbria Terni Ferentillo Abbazia di S. Pietro in Valle7. Hutzel, Max 1960-1990 The abbey was founded on the location where two hermits, Lazzaro and Giovanni, lived during the sixth century. It was founded by the Duke of Spoleto Faroaldo II. The nave of the church is unique in that it is oriented to the east. The church was reconstructed in the tenth and eleventh centuries, and it was completely restored in 1931. Post-medieval: 15th-16th century architecture (modifications of original structure), architectural sculpture, columnar monument, well, and portal bearing the Orsini arms, German-born photographer and scholar Max Hutzel (1911-1988) photographed in Italy from the early 1960s until his death. The result of this project, referred to by Hutzel as Foto Arte Minore, is thorough documentation of art historical development in Italy up to the 18th century, including objects of the Etruscans and the Romans, as well as early Medieval, Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque monuments. Images are organized by geographic region in Italy, then by province, city, site complex and monument.
