Section MB of Barrancas National Cemetery, one of the sections that containsMemorial markers for those whose remains were not recoverable. Barrancas National Cemetery is an active burial site that is open to all service membersand their families who have met the minimum active duty requirement and were discharged with any condition excluding dishonorable.

This was the last major German offensive of the war. The Germans planned to march up the Marne River and carry on to Paris but failed when they met 3rd ID. When the German units retreated and the French Allies pulled back their troops, the then Commanding General of the 3rd ID, Maj. Gen. Joseph Dickman, told the French Allies Nous resterons la, translated to English, this means We will stay here. The 3rd IDs heroism during this battle was a turning point in the war.

The cemetery includes a large urn containing the ashes of 335 Sailors, Soldiers, and Airmen from the United States, the British Commonwealth, and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, who died as POWs in Japan. The ceremony is sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Commander, Navy Region Japan, bringing families of U.S. prisoners of war to Japan for a week-long reconciliation tour.

Barrancas National Cemetery on Naval Air Station Pensacola was established in January 1868 and is one of five national cemeteries in Florida.
