NEW YORK (Oct 6, 2012) Secretary of the Navy, the Honorable Ray Mabus, stands with Ship's Sponsor, Maureen Murphy, during the commissioning ceremony for guided-missile destroyer USS Michael Murphy (DDG 112). Mutphy's son, Lt. (SEAL) Michael P. Murphy was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions in combat as leader of a four-man reconnaissance team in Afghanistan. Murphy was the first person to be awarded the Medal of Honor for actions in Afghanistan and the first member of the U.S. Navy to receive the award since the Vietnam War.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. As part of the Medal of Honor events taking place throughout Knoxville this week, several Medal of Honor recipients visited local high schools Wednesday, September 7th. They arrived on Sikorsky black hawk helicopters flown by the Army National Guard.Speaking with the students at Bearden High School were Major General Patrick H. Brady and Sergeant First Class Sammy L. Davis, who both served in the Army during the Vietnam War.After sharing their stories, MG Brady and Sgt. 1st Class Davis departed the school via black hawk.
