Flora Sandes (22 January 1876 24 November 1956) was the only British woman officially to serve as a soldier in World War I. Initially a St. John Ambulance volunteer, she travelled to Serbia, where, in the confusion of war, she was formally enrolled in the Serbian army. Russians Seek Revenge In Germany -- Two former Russian "Slave Laborers" (right), who were forced to work in a German factory for three years, begin their attack on a German civilian policeman, on a street in Bonn, Germany, as they recognize him as one of those who usually supervised their work. The incident occurred when the Russians, looking for an American "displaced persons center" with two other, comrades, ran into the policeman.
