Detachment 101, an enigmatic Allied intelligence and special operations unit during World War II, played a pivotal role in the Burmese theater. Operating deep in the jungles of Burma, their mission was multi-faceted, encompassing guerrilla warfare, espionage, and sabotage against Japanese forces. Comprising a diverse group of individuals, from OSS agents to indigenous fighters, they effectively disrupted Japanese supply lines, gathered critical intelligence, and supported resistance movements.

In Sunny Hyde Park to-day a powerful and military voice rang out across the open space near knightsbridge Barracks. It was the voice of 22-year-old Sergeant Ethel Board of the Women's Royal Army Corps, giving orders to squads of marching WRACS belonging to the Independent Company Anti-Aircraft Command. A crowd gathered to watch her in action. She made her voice heard for practically the whole length of Rotten Row. Horses shied as the ***** in their green berets marched with a fine precision up the row. When Sergeant Ethel shouted "Sq-u-aaa-d, halt!" one horse nearly threw its rider. March 30, 1954.

Pilot Held By Russians Comes Home To BritainFlight-Lieutenant John Driver, the 38-year-old R.A.F. pilot who was held eleven weeks the Russians after a forced landing in the soviet Zone of Germany, seen with his wife on arrival at Liverpool Street Station, London, today. They travelled overnight from Germany in the British Forces Leave ship Empire Parkeaton" to Harwich, Essex. Driver's wife, Joy, went to Berlin to make sure that everything that could be done was being done to secure her husband's release, Said Lieut Driver The Russians treated me very well but would not say why I was being held and when I would be released. The only souvenir I have brought back with me is the winter woolen purple underwear they gave me. The Drivers live in Minchinghampton, Gloucestershire. November 28, 1950.

Manzanar is most widely known as the site of one of ten camps where over 110,000 Japanese Americans were incarcerated during World War II. Located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada in California's Owens Valley between the towns of Lone Pine to the south and Independence to the north, it is approximately 230 miles (370 km) northeast of Los Angeles. Long before the first incarcerees arrived in March 1942, Manzanar was home to Native Americans, who mostly lived in villages near several creeks in the area. Ranchers and miners formally established the town of Manzanar in 1910, but abandoned the town by 1929 after the City of Los Angeles purchased the water rights to virtually the entire area. Since the last incarcerees left in 1945, former incarcerees and others have worked to protect Manzanar and to establish it as a National Historic Site to ensure that the history of the site, along with the stories of those who were unjustly incarcerated there, are remembered by current and future genera
