Troops are located outside the first of several four-story transient training troops barracks July 11, 2022, at Fort McCoy, Wis. The new barracks was officially opened for use in May 2022 by the Fort McCoy Directorate of Public Works and the first troops to stay in it started in early June 2022. A $20.6 million contract was awarded to L.S. Black Constructors, Inc., in September 2019 to build the barracks, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Resident Office at Fort McCoy which managed the project. The barracks, which is built in the 1600 block on the Fort McCoy cantonment area, is different than traditional barracks that are located throughout the installation. This new building is four stories and is able to house 400 people in approximately 60,000 square feet.

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. - This is Launch Complex 5_6 blockhouse, now a museum at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (CCAFS) in Florida, where long-lost spacesuits were found. A recent venture into a long-locked room at CCAFS uncovered interesting artifacts of a bygone era retired space suits from Americans who trained in the 1960s to be astronauts aboard an Air Force orbiting reconnaissance laboratory. Two security officers were doing a check of a facility at Launch Complex 5_6 blockhouse. NASA Special Agent Dan E. Oakland and Security Manager Henry Butler, with Delaware North Parks and Resorts, which oversees the museum, discovered a locked room. Space suits from the Air Forces planned Manned Orbiting Laboratory (MOL) program were found in the room Begun in 1964, the MOL program was an Air Force initiative that would have sent Air Force astronauts to a space station in a Gemini capsule. An exterior view of an area of the Fort McCoy Combined Arms Collective Training Facility (CACTF) complex is shown Aug. 4, 2022, at Fort McCoy, Wis. The CACTF provides a wide variety of training environments. The complex, built at a cost of more than $14 million, was completed in late 2012. The first use of the CACTF for training was by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in March 2013. Since then, hundreds of different military units as well as law-enforcement agencies have made use of the facility. Fort McCoy has supported Americas armed forces since 1909. Service members at the installation for training drive military vehicles on post June 9, 2022, at Fort McCoy, Wis. Annually, tens of thousands of troops complete institutional and transient troop training operations at Fort McCoy. During June 2022, thousands of troops also trained at Fort McCoy, including troops from the Wisconsin National Guard and Iowa National Guard.

A U.S. Airman assigned to the 354th Logistics Readiness Squadron participates in the Prisoners of War/Missing in Action remembrance run on Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska, Sept. 16, 2022. Completed work on a troop project is shown Aug. 17, 2022, to build office buildings at Logistical Support Area Liberty on North Post at Fort McCoy, Wis. Many Army engineer units have worked on the troop project in 2022 at Fort McCoy. Fort McCoy Troop Projects Coordinator Larry Morrow said having troop projects completed helps engineer units get the training they need and in turn the installation receives base and quality of life improvements through the completion of the projects.

Aircrews with the Minnesota National Guard operate UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters Oct. 27, 2022, at Sparta-Fort McCoy Airport at Fort McCoy, Wis. According to the Army fact sheet for the Black Hawk, its mission is to provide air assault, general support, aeromedical evacuation, command and control, and special operations support to combat, stability, and support operations. The UH-60 also is the Armys utility tactical transport helicopter. The versatile helicopter has enhanced the overall mobility of the Army due to dramatic improvements in troop capacity and cargo lift capability over the years as well. Five Minnesota National Guard Black Hawks were at the airport Oct. 27.

Exercise operations are shown Aug. 12, 2022, at Fort McCoy, Wis., for the 86th Training Division's Combat Support Training Exercise (CSTX) 86-22-02. The exercise took place in August 2022 at Fort McCoy at various locations throughout the installation. Around 4,000 service members participated in the exercise. The CSTX is a joint training event executed in a live, virtual, and constructive integrated training environment where service members test their tactical and technical skills.

Military retirees and their family members participating in the 2022 Retiree Appreciation Day on Sept. 9, 2022, at Fort McCoy, Wis., visit a sidewalk sale at the Fort McCoy Commissary. Hundreds of people attended the event that was coordinated by the Fort McCoy Soldier for Life/Retirement Services Office with the Fort McCoy Directorate of Human Resources in building 2472 also on post. A heritage marker installed by the 6th Civil Engineer Squadron June 24, 2022, identifies the location of U.S. Strike Command, the first unified command established at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, in 1961 at the current 6th Force Support Squadron Headquarters Building 373. The heritage marker is one of twelve markers on MacDill AFB and South Tampa where base personnel can learn more about all eras of base history.

Uniforms of police, fire, and military personnel are set up in an outdoor display Sept. 9, 2022, at an area on the cantonment area at Fort McCoy, Wis., to pay tribute to the first responders of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The uniform display was arranged by the Fort McCoy Religious Support Office as part of the installation's observance for Patriot Day 2022 on Sept. 11, 2022. The uniform display was also set up at the Main Gate of the installation.

The city of Knoxville, Iowa, can be seen through the back hatch of a CH-47 Chinook, Jan. 17, 2023. Soldiers with the 1st Battalion, 171st Aviation Regiment took Knoxville area community leaders on a flight around the town to build community relations and support for troops.

A tree planted in memory of Chief Warrant Officer 2 Benjamin K. Humphreys - planted by his widow, Betty, in 2007 - sits at the base of Beacon Hill at Memorial Park on Camp Humphreys. The installation was named after Humphreys in 1962 after he died the previous year in a helicopter accident near Osan, Republic of Korea.As the U.S. Army Garrison Humphreys Directorate of Public Works is currently looking for nominations for center pieces for four vacant roundabouts, consideration should be given to acquiring a CH-21 Shawnee - like the one Humphreys flew - and make it the centerpiece.

The $18.8 million project was awarded to L.S. Black Constructors, which is the contractor who built the first barracks building at Fort McCoy, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Resident Office at Fort McCoy. The new contract was awarded Sept. 29, 2020, and the notice to proceed was issued Oct. 28, 2020. The contract duration is scheduled for completion in 780 calendar days. Currently contract completion is scheduled for December 2022. The barracks is different than the traditional barracks located throughout the installation. This new building will be four stories and able to house 400 people in approximately 60,000 square feet. A Kentucky Army National Guard flight crew from Bravo Co., 2/147th Assault Helicopter Battalion provided a media flight for local news networks around eastern Kentucky on July 30, 2022. Their mission was to assist media in capturing aerial footage of the flood effected regions.

Completed work on a troop project is shown June 21, 2022, to build office buildings at Logistical Support Area Liberty on North Post at Fort McCoy, Wis. Many Army engineer units have worked on the troop project in 2022 at Fort McCoy. Fort McCoy Troop Projects Coordinator Larry Morrow said having troop projects completed helps engineer units get the training they need and in turn the installation receives base and quality of life improvements through the completion of the projects.

The Wisconsin Military Academy is shown Jan. 4, 2024, at Fort McCoy, Wis. The academy is a tenant organization at Fort McCoy and supports the Wisconsin National Guard. According to the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs, the 426th Regiment (RTI) Regional Training Institute in the academy is the Wisconsin National Guards educational institution, providing a professional learning environment, quality instruction, and training support. Through the Wisconsin Military Academy, the 426th trains future leaders through its Officers Candidate School and Warrant Officer Candidate School. It also provides technical education for the basic field artillery military occupational specialty qualifications and Field Artillery Noncommissioned Officer Education System as well as truck driving, combat lifesaving, and other courses.
