ODENTON, Md. - Soldiers from the 780th Military Intelligence Brigade (Cyber) hosted a Hackathon event in partnership with the Odenton Library, Anne Arundel County Public Library, September 28, to encourage teens interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). There was a Capture the Flag (CTF) competition, as well as a Basic Python, Password Cracking, and an Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) Tools station for the teens to participate in. The Junior Sailors Association (JSA) from Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PHNSY & IMF) volunteered at the Aiea Public Library July 27, 2022.The event was part of the associations goal to reach out to neighboring communities and make a positive impact on local youth, according to HT2 Thomas Kozlowski, president of the JSA.During the visit, the Sailors read several children's books and held interactive learning activities. Several PHNSY & IMF challenge coins along with miniature American flags were given to the children, whose ages ranged from 2 to 8 years old.After we read to the kids, we answered questions about our Navy careers, the different types of uniforms we wear and what it was like living on a boat, Kozlowski said. Overall, the Sailors, librarians and library staff agreed that it was a successful event.

Yokosuka, Japan (Dec. 6 2022) - A group of elementary school students from Sullivan Elementary School onboard Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka visited the military post office to make sure they mail their letters to Santa. When the first grade students arrived, they were greeted by NAVSUP FLC Yokosuka Sailors and given a lesson on how letters and packages travel to the post office from anywhere in the world and into their parent's mailboxes. With the holiday season in full swing, the young students were able to witness firsthand the massive amount of mail that passes through the post office with many packages headed for final destinations under someone's Christmas tree. A surprise visitor from the North Pole dressed all in red also dropped in to say hi to the students and handed out candy canes. At the end of the tour, the students were able to stamp their own envelopes.

SINGAPORE (May 24, 2022) -- Petty Officer First Class Erica Prout, from New Orleans, Louisiana, reads a book to children at the Child and Youth Program Center in Singapore May 24 as part of Asian American Pacific Islander Month. The book, titled Hush Little Keiki, introduces the youngsters to the flora and fauna of the Hawaiian Islands. Prout, who works for Military Sealift Command Far East, is part of the community's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee. Members of the group and other military and civilian personnel stationed in Singapore routinely read books to the children, introducing them to different cultures and regions.
