Norfolk (September 20, 2022) Retired U.S Army Chief Warrant Officer Five Phillip Brashear speaks to Chief Petty Officer selectees from various commands in the Hampton Roads, Virginia region as part of the 21st Annual Chief Petty Officer Heritage Days Event. 1AF's Detachment 3 successfully completed a validation exercise designed to verify the ability of United States Air Force "Guardian Angel" Pararescue specialists to operate with aircrew aboard U.S. Navy MH-60S Seahawks to, if needed, rescue astronauts at sea. The joint team will support NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration's upcoming Crew 5 launch. "The integration with Navy helicopter crews and the Air Force pararescuemen was successful," said Col Jason Gingrich, First Air Force, Air Forces Space Air Deputy to United States Space Command. "We worked out joint solutions for human space flight support operations (HSFSO) with our counterparts from Fleet Forces Navy and NASA. Also, United States Space Command provided great oversight and support for this vital HSFSO mission."

Norfolk (September 19, 2022) Chief Petty Officer selectees from various commands in the Hampton Roads, Virginia region participate in history and heritage training aboard the decommissioned Iowa-Class Battleship USS Wisconsin (BB-64) facilitated by Command Master Chief James Parlier, USN (Ret.). Specifically, CMC Parlier shared some of his experiences while serving as the CMC aboard USS Cole (DDG-67), which was the target of a suicide bomb in October 2000 while at anchor in Aden, Yemen. The attack claimed the lives of 17 Sailors, and wounded 59 others. The presentation was part of the museums 21st Annual Chief Petty Officer Heritage Days event. The three-day event allows CPO selectees to receive history and heritage training at the museum and aboard the Battleship Wisconsin, and is hosted by the museum and area commands. 1AF's Detachment 3 successfully completed a validation exercise designed to verify the ability of United States Air Force "Guardian Angel" Pararescue specialists to operate with aircrew aboard U.S. Navy MH-60S Seahawks to, if needed, rescue astronauts at sea. The joint team will support NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration's upcoming Crew 5 launch. "The integration with Navy helicopter crews and the Air Force pararescuemen was successful," said Col Jason Gingrich, First Air Force, Air Forces Space Air Deputy to United States Space Command. "We worked out joint solutions for human space flight support operations (HSFSO) with our counterparts from Fleet Forces Navy and NASA. Also, United States Space Command provided great oversight and support for this vital HSFSO mission."
