Once the doorway had been breached, competitors then had to engage targets with an M9 pistol. The competition is a grueling three-day physical and mental challenge that tests the competitors on a variety of soldier skills and other tasks. The winners of the competition are named the Army National Guard Soldier and Noncommissioned Officer of the Year of the year and then move on to the Department of the Army competition.
