Papua And New Guinea Series -- Memorial erected on Turnbull airstrip, Milne Bay. The memorial was erected as a tribute by The Australian Forces serving in the area in 1944. The Memorial reads; "In memory of the Officers, NCO's and men of the 7th and 18th. Aust. Inf. Brigades who gave their lives in defending Turnbull Field. This marks the western most point in Milne Bay of the Jap advance, August 1942. Also the southernmost point of the Jap. Advance in the south-west Pacific area. Eighty-three unknown Jap marines lie buried here. Erected as a tribute by Australian Forces seving in this area, June, 1944". November 11, 1949.
