In honor of Memorial Day, Sailors from Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (NMCP) placed American flags on the 880 graves located on Naval Support Activity Hampton Roads-Portsmouth Annex Captain Ted Conaway Memorial Naval Cemetery, May 26. The grave site is laid out in four quadrants forming a Greek cross, and the earliest marked grave is that of George Butler, a Sailor who fell to his death in an accident aboard the USS Constitution on Aug. 1, 1838. The cemetery's burials represent not only American dead, but also individuals from Brazil, Great Britain, France, the Netherlands, Russia Spain, Sweden and Germany are buried here. As the U.S. Navys oldest, continuously-operating military hospital since 1830, Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, part of the Tidewater Market, serves eligible beneficiaries at the nationally-acclaimed, state-of-the-art medical center, along with the areas 10 branch health and TRICARE Prime Clinics.

Hundreds gathered May 30, 2016, at Madingley American Cemetery in Cambridge, England, to honor thousands of U.S. Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Airmen who made the ultimate sacrifice. The cemetery contains 3,812 headstones and a Wall of the Missing, which stands nearly 500 feet in length and contains the names of more than 5,000 men from the U.S. Army, Army Air Corps, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard, who are still listed as missing in action, buried at sea or unaccounted for.

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is a national memorial in Washington, D. C. It honors U. S. service members of the U. S. armed forces who fought in the Vietnam War, service members who died in service in Vietnam/South East Asia, and those service members who were unaccounted for (Missing In Action) during the War. Its construction and related issues have been the source of controversies, some of which have resulted in additions to the memorial complex. The memorial currently consists of three separate parts: the Three Soldiers statue, the Vietnam Women's Memorial, and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, which is the best-known part of the memorial. The main part of the memorial, which was completed in 1982, is in Constitution Gardens adjacent to the National Mall, just northeast of the Lincoln Memorial. The memorial is maintained by the U. S. ANNAPOLIS, Md. (May 31, 2022) The U.S. Naval Academy honors the life of retired Adm. Thomas B. Hayward, the 21st Chief of Naval Operations. Hayward was born May 3, 1924 in Glendale, California. After serving as an enlisted Sailor during World War II, Hayward attended the U.S. Naval Academy, graduating in 1947. An aviator, he repeatedly served aboard aircraft carriers at sea and in training and test pilot commands ashore. He served as Commander, U.S. Seventh Fleet and then as Commander in Chief, U.S. Pacific Fleet prior to being named CNO. He passed away on March 3, 2022.

Soldiers, Gold Star Families and Veterans of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) help kick off this years Week of the Eagles during a ceremony for the annual Fort Campbell Survivor Outreach Services annual Boots on the Ground Display May 20, 2022.More than 7,600 boots from all branches of service lined the lawn of the 101st Airborne Division headquarters, each one dedicated to a fallen DOD member since September 11, 2001. Each boot was decorated with a photo of the individual, as well as personal notes, trinkets and a small American flag. WoE has been held since 1974 the Week of the Eagles created by Maj. Gen. John Cushman, commanding general of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) who rebuilt division after Vietnam.The event was such a success the next year the Week of the Eagles was a celebration of the rebuilt and reborn division to honor both the past and the future with a week of events consisting of Air Assault demonstrations, open houses, veterans and sporting events

Following the Kennedy Space Center's NASA Day of Remembrance ceremony, Family members of fallen astronauts placed a wreath at the Space Mirror Memorial. The monument includes the names of the fallen astronauts from Apollo 1, Challenger and Columbia, as well as the astronauts who perished in training and commercial airplane accidents are emblazoned on the monument's 45-foot-high-by-50-foot-wide polished black granite surface.
