U.S. Germany Commands New Army On Western Front.Lieutenant General Leonard T. Gerow, who has long been associated with the planning and execution of the Allied campaign against Germany, is the commander of the new U.S. 15th Army on the Western Front. This is the fifth American and the eighth Allied army fighting against Germany on the Western Front. When Allied forces land in Normandy on June 6, 1944, General Gerow was a major general in command of the Fifth U.S. Corps, which, ***** with the Seventh Corps, made up the First Army forces that secured the beachhead. Gibb the men who has flown an aircraft higher than any man in the world.The twin-jet British Canberra bomber has reached a height of more than 60,000-feet to better the official aircraft altitude record of 59,446-feet, the Bristol Aeroplane company announced March 24th. Whether an official attempt would be made on the world mark set by John Cunningham of Britain in a vampire jet in 1948 has not as yet been decided, it was stated. The Olympus-powered Canberra which was shown at the Farmborough air display last year, has been carrying out high Altitude flying tests for some time, when the above-record altitude was reached was not stated. As a hint of the difficulty facing the British in ***** him down, it is pointed out that Grivas operated ***** in Athens for nearly three years, defying arrest by the Germans with complete success. Lieutenant General Claire Lee Chennault (September 6, 1893 July 27, 1958), was an American military aviator. A contentious officer, he was a fierce advocate of fight-interceptor aircraft during the 1930s when the U.S. Army Air Corps was focused primarily on high-altitude bombardment. Chennault retired in 1937, went to work as an aviation trainer and adviser in China, and commanded the 'Flying Tigers' during World War II, both the volunteer group and the uniformed units that replaced it in 1942.

Photographs Relating to the Minor Nuremberg Trials

. 6 Battalion, York and Lancaster Regiment Lt Col Leahy was resident sectional engineer to the Pacific Railway in Argentina before the War. He returned to England and obtained his commission in the York and Lancaster Regiment in 1914. Lt Col Leahy served in Gallipoli and in Egypt, before being posted to the Western Front where he was Mentioned in Despatches. He was killed by a shell, aged 35, while directing his men during a raid on German trenches on 17 July 1918. Lt Col Leahy is buried at Mazingarbe Communal Cemetery Extension. "Aid To Japs" Court Martial -- Mr. Thomas Durden, surprise witness in the Major Boon court martial, seen at Curzen St. this morning.The Court Martial of Major Cecil Boon, accused of aiding the Japanese while a prisoner of war in Hong Kong, entered its 16th day at Curzon Street, London, this morning (Friday). Yesterday Major Boon was cleared of six of the 11 charges which were brought against him, and will defend himself in the other five. At the court this morning was Mr. Thomas Durden, of Epson, a member of the same R.A.S.C. company as Major Boon, who is the only witness to come forward offering evidence in defence of Boon. For the prosecution were 44 witnesses. September 13, 1946.

When Japanese Machine Gun "Panay" Survivors.Mr. Clarence E. Gauss, U.S. ***** Shanghai.The 54 survivors of the U.S. Gunboat Panay, bombed by Japanese, were rescued from the water and landed at Hsiashan, 12 miles above Nanking. There, however, they were again in grave danger. Japanese troops were machine-gunning the waterfront, and apparently press ***** mass attack on the town. Mr. Clarence E.
