Kyle Click, a 22-year-old dog handler with 3rd Platoon, Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, and native of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Windy, an improvised explosive device detection dog, search the perimeter of the Safar School compound here, March 18. Approximately 40 elders and 150 students met with Afghan National Security Forces and 3/3 Marines during a shura at the newly constructed school to discuss the growth of education in Garmsir district. While there are several small schools in the surrounding area, the school was the first built in Safar by the local government with the aid of coalition forces. Despite requiring some finishing touches, the school is a vast improvement from its predecessor, a mud hut capable of supporting only 80 students.

Though the Chin Afghani Clinic in the Pusht Rod District of Farah Province, Afghanistan, is situated next to an Afghan National Police compound, U.S. Army Sgt. Victor Cruz, a member of the Guam Army National Guard and security force member for the Farah Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT), provides security during a clinic assessment, Dec. 29, 2009. The Farah Provincial Health Director, Dr. Abdul Jabar, and other Farah Hospital medical providers were transported and accompanied by members of the PRT to conduct the assessment. They wouldn’t have the means to or feel secure enough to travel to the clinic on their own,” said U.S. Navy Cmdr. Harvey Wilds, the commander of the PRT medical team. Dr. Jabar has already informed me of another clinic he would like to visit,” said Wilds. Dr. Jabar’s report of the comprehensive health clinic (CHC) will be forwarded to the Ministry of Public Health in Kabul for review.
