Two Governments Recognize Coast Guardsman's Valor. Decorated for bravery when flying with the English in the First World War, Commander James S. Hunt, U.S. Coast Guard, is now decorated for bravery in this war by his own government. Admiral R. R. Waesche, Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard, is shown at the left, pinning the Silver Star on Commander Hunt for bravery in handling of Coast Guard assault boats at Salerno. Commander Hunt, a native of Detroit, received the Distinguished Flying Cross from King George V in ceremonies in Buckingham Palace in 1918. A captain and acting major in the RAF, he was credited with "many planes and one gunboat.".
