Master Sgt. (retired) Henry "Hank" Gould speaks at the Aug. 15 Village of Skokie (Illinois) Board of Trustees meeting after Maj. James Brock of the Illinois Army National Guard's 2nd Battalion, 122nd Field Artillery Regiment presented him with a letter from Maj. Gen. Rich Neely, the Adjutant General of Illinois and Commander of the Illinois National Guard, and gifts from Gould's old unit. Three Army Veterans were to be honored as the Military Grand Marshals of the Skokie Independence Day Parade on July 4 when the parade was suddenly cancelled because of the shootings at the parade in nearby Highland Park. Vietnam Veteran Gerald Jaffe, who served with the 1st Air Cavalry in Vietnam and went on to become a local business owner in Skokie, was also honored receiving a letter from 1st Air Cavalry Brigade Commander Col. A 50th Anniversary Ceremony was held today in honor of the first rocket launch, called Bumper 8, from Pad 3 at Cape Canaveral on July 24, 1950. Members of the original Bumper 8 team reconvene at the ceremony with a Bumper 8 model rocket. The model was later launched as part of the festivities. Other activities included presentation of a Bumper Award to the Honorable George Kirkpatrick, State Senator, District 5; remarks by Center Director Roy Bridges and Commander, 45th Space Wing, Brig. Gen. Donald Pettit; and a reception at Hangar C. Bumper consisted of a German V-2 missile acting as the booster and a U.S. Army WAC Corporal rocket as the second stage. Teldon, born in Bronx, N.Y., in 1924, joined the military in 1944. He completed 62 missions during WWII and the Korean War. Lt. Col. Andrew Stein, 502nd Operations Support Squadron commander, was the presiding officers. The awards presented to Teldon are as follows: the Air Medal; American Campaign Medal; European - African - Middle Eastern Campaign Medal; World War II Victory Medal; National Defense Medal; and the Distinguished Unit Citation.

Genet served aboard the Battleship Wisconsin from 1951-1953, and was in the Downtown Norfolk, Virginia area to attend the USS Wisconsin annual reunion. Battleship Wisconsin is located next to the museum.
