Vajrapāṇi (from Sanskrit vajra, 'thunderbolt' or 'diamond' and pāṇi, lit. 'in the hand') is one of the earliest bodhisattvas of Mahayana Buddhism. He is the protector and guide of the Buddha, and rose to symbolize the Buddha's power. Vajrapani was used extensively in Buddhist iconography as one of the three protective deities surrounding the Buddha. Each of them symbolizes one of the Buddha's virtues: Manjusri (the manifestation of all the Buddhas' wisdom), Avalokitesvara (the manifestation of all the Buddhas' compassion) and Vajrapani (the manifestation of all the Buddhas' power).

Baisao (1675 -1763) was a Japanese Buddhist monk of the Obaku school of Zen Buddhism, who became famous for traveling around Kyoto selling tea. Baisao or 'Old Tea Seller', was a name he picked up from his act of making tea in the Kyoto area. His Zen priest name was Gekkai Gensho. Later in his life, he renounced his priesthood and adopted the layman name of Ko Yugai. When Baisao was 49 years old, he left monastic life and began peddling tea in Kyoto. His tea differed from that of matcha, the most common tea in Japan at the time. He offered 'simmered tea', a style of green tea from China that is similar to what we now know as green tea. Eventually, he was introduced to a new style of tea, similar to his 'simmered tea' that was invented in Japan, known as sencha. He wandered to different locations in Kyoto to offer his tea, typically stopping near the numerous Zen temples and gardens. Meditation in a Cave Ren Yu Chinese Ren Yu was the youngest of the Four Rens, but he nevertheless was able to create his own distinctive style of painting. The Auspicious Noh Dance "Okina" ca. 1790-95 Toriyama Sekien Three dancers perform movements from the ritualized dance called Okina, literally, Old Man,” or Sanbas?. Performed before the formal program of Noh plays begins, it is a dance without narrative content that is reserved for special occasions such as New Year’s festivities, prayers for prosperity of the nation, and ceremonies to purify the site of a Shinto shrine.On the right is the protagonist Okina, wearing the white mask of an old man and donning an over-robe (kariginu) decorated with a tortoiseshell pattern, a symbol of longevity. The cranes and tortoises that adorn the costumes of the two other dancers are also emblems of longevity. In this image taken from both popular accounts and the Bhagavata Purana, Krishna has stolen the clothes of cowgirls (gopis) who are bathing in the Yamuna River, a tributary of the Ganges River. He refuses to return their clothes, the purple saris seen hanging high in the tree, until they come out and bow to him with folded palms. Krishna, a cowherder, is holding a flute, which he uses to lure them away.
