CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - Inside the Operations and Checkout Building high bay at NASAs Kennedy Space Center in Florida, agency Administrator Charles Bolden answers questions from members of the news media about ongoing preparations of the Orion spacecraft for its first unpiloted launch, Exploration Test Flight 1.Orion is the exploration spacecraft designed to carry crews to space beyond low Earth orbit. It will provide emergency abort capability, sustain the crew during the space travel and provide safe re-entry from deep space return velocities. Orions first unpiloted test launch is scheduled for liftoff during 2014 atop a Delta IV rocket. A second unpiloted flight test is scheduled for 2017 on NASAs Space Launch System rocket.

NASA Administrator Charles Bolden announces where four space shuttle orbiters will be permanently displayed at the conclusion of the Space Shuttle Program during an event held at one of the Orbiter Processing Facilities, Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Fla. The four orbiters, Enterprise, which currently is on display at the Smithsonian's Steven F. Upgrades and high-tech features incorporated into the design and development of this vehicle make it more reliable and efficient for the convoy crew. LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Larry Price, Lockheed Martin Space Systems deputy program manager for Orion, talks with reporters in the well deck of the USS Anchorage after completion of Underway Recovery Test 2. The capsule was shipped to Kennedy from NASA's Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans where the crew module pressure vessel was built. The Orion production team will prepare the module for flight at Kennedy by installing heat-shielding thermal protection systems, avionics and other subsystems.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - Russell Romanella, director of the ISS and Spacecraft Processing Directorate at NASA's Kennedy Space Center, addresses the media who were provided an opportunity to see the newest section of the International Space Station, the Tranquility node, in the Space Station Processing Facility. Tranquility is a pressurized module that will provide room for many of the station's life support systems. Managers from NASA, the European Space Agency, Thales Alenia Space and Boeing -- the organizations involved in building and processing the module for flight -- were available for a question-and-answer session during the event. Tranquility will be delivered to the station during space shuttle Endeavour's STS-130 mission, targeted for launch in February 2010.

Liftoff was on time at 11:38:19 a.m. EDT. Discovery carries the Italian-built U.S. Node 2, called Harmony. During the 14-day STS-120 mission, the crew will install Harmony and move the P6 solar arrays to their permanent position and deploy them. Discovery is expected to complete its mission and return home at 4:47 a.m. EST on Nov. 6.

The capsule was shipped to Kennedy from NASA's Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans where the crew module pressure vessel was built. The Orion production team will prepare the module for flight at Kennedy by installing heat-shielding thermal protection systems, avionics and other subsystems.
