Landsat Of Mississippi River Flood

This image from NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter shows the scarp that demarcates the boundary between layered deposits covering the north polar region and the lower surrounding terrain, which includes sand dunes. Original release date March 3, 2010.

These North Polar layered deposits, composed of ice, captured by NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter spacecraft, show what looks like drag folds, where rock layers bend (fold) before they break in a fault.

The Red Spot is the largest known storm in the Solar System. With a diameter of 15,400 miles, it is almost twice the size of the entire Earth and one-sixth the diameter of Jupiter itself.

This data was acquired by the NASA C-130B Earth Resources Survey aircraft flying at 6,000 ft. mean sea level at 10 26 a. m. on October 21, 1991. The sensor used was the NS001 Thermatic Mapper Simulator, with a ground resolution of 4.6 meters (15ft). The image area is 4.7 x 3.2 km (2.9 x 2 mi.). The area covered is the Oakland Berkeley Hills near the Caldecott Tunnel (Upper right). Targets over 600 degrees centrigrade are shown as yellow in this composite of three infrared bands (11.6, 2.3, & 1.6 microns). A large condominium complex at the upper right is completely consumed. Areas already burned off sow as pale red. The blue clouds at left are condensed water vapor within the smoke plume, which blocks the infrared wavelength; the smoke itself is transparent. Many hundreds of individual structures can be seen either actively burning or as heat of smouldering debris.

SL2-10-250 (May-June 1973) --- A vertical view of eastern Iowa and northwestern Illinois, as photographed from Skylab space station in Earth orbit. Davenport, Burlington and Muscatine, Iowa; and Rock Island and Moline, Illinois can be delineated on opposite sides of the Mississippi River. The Iowa River and tributaries of it can also be delineated. This photograph was taken with one of six lenses of the Itek-furnished Multispectral Photographic Facility Experiment S190-A mounted in the Multiple Docking Adapter (MDA) of the space station. A six-inch lens, using 70mm medium speed Ektachrome (SO-356) film, was used. Agencies participating with NASA on the EREP project are the Departments of Agriculture, Commerce and Interior; the Environmental Protection Agency and the Corps of Engineers. All EREP photography is available to the public through the Department of Interior's Earth Resources Observations Systems Data Center, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, 57198.

STS099-749-063 (11-22 February 2000) ---One of the astronauts aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour for the STS-99 mission recorded this 70mm image of Manicouagan, one of the largest and most famous craters in Canada. Lake Manicouagan and Lake Mushalagan, frozen in this image, surround the central uplift of the crater. The original crater diameter was 100 kilometers and the age has been dated at 214 million years. Shattercones, striated features found in rocks deformed by the passage of shock waves, and shattered and brecciated rocks found in the central uplift confirm the crater's impact origin, according the NASA scientists studying the STS-99 photo collection.
