(Oct. 13, 2022) - The Whidbey Island-class dock landing ship USS Gunston Hall (LSD 44) returned to Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story after a deployment with the Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group (ARG), Oct. 13. NORFOLK (Dec. 20, 2012) The amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7) returns to Naval Station Norfolk after a nine-month deployment to the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet areas of responsibility. The homecoming marks the end of the Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group's (IWOARG) deployment, where its ships supported Operation Enduring Freedom, Exercises African Lion, Eager Lion and International Mine Countermeasure Exercise 2012, and conducted Maritime Security Operations (MSO) and theater security cooperation efforts in the Mediterranean and Arabian Seas.

ATLANTIC OCEAN (June 30, 2022) Two U.S. Air Force F-15C Eagles and a U.S. Navy E-2 overfly the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Farragut (DDG 99) as part of Operation Noble Defender (OND) off the coast of Cape Canaveral, Florida, June 30, 2022. During OND, the Continental U.S. NORAD Region (CONR) coordinated and conducted joint operations with the U.S. Navy while concurrently launching jets from different locations across the United States' gulf coast and Puerto Rico. OND, is an integrated air and missile defense operation designed to ensure the defense and security of the northern and southern approaches to North America. This particular OND allowed NORAD units to exercise maneuvers designed to defend the southern approach to the United States from simulated cruise missile threats.

GUANABARA BAY, Brazil (Sept. 7, 2022) Sailors aboard the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Lassen (DDG 82) man the rails during the Parade of Ships marking Brazils bicentennial during UNITAS LXIII, Sept. 7, 2022. UNITAS is the worlds longest-running maritime exercise. Hosted this year by Brazil, it brings together multinational forces from Belize, Brazil, Cameroon, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, France, Guyana, Jamaica, Mexico, Namibia, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, South Korea, Spain, United Kingdom, Uruguay, and the United States conducting operations in and off the coast of Rio de Janeiro. Ground support equipment for use during an alternate recovery method of the Orion crew module after its first flight test, if needed, is lowered by crane onto the deck of the USNS Salvor, a salvage ship, at Naval Base San Diego in California. Before launch of Orion on a Delta IV Heavy rocket from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida, NASA, Lockheed Martin and U.S. Navy personnel will head out to sea in the USS Anchorage and the USNS Salvor and wait for splashdown of the Orion crew module in the Pacific Ocean. The GSDO Program will lead the recovery efforts. Orion is the exploration spacecraft designed to carry astronauts to destinations not yet explored by humans, including an asteroid and Mars. It will have emergency abort capability, sustain the crew during space travel and provide safe re-entry from deep space return velocities. Marines and sailors man USS Makin Island's rails as the amphibious assault ship sails into San Francisco Bay Oct. 6. The Marines are part of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit's special-purpose Marine air-ground task force, which is the first amphibious landing force to embark Makin Island. The ship left San Diego Oct. 1 to participate in San Francisco's 2010 Fleet Week. The unit will showcase to the public the Marine Corps' men and women, its aircraft and equipment, and its ability to conduct missions that span the overlapping spectrums of peace and combat, from disaster relief to war.
